By the time Kyle had gotten over to Kevin's, his parents were headed out the door, and drove off. Kyle had gone inside, and had just taken his shoes off when his cell rang. He sighed and rolled his eyes. He knew who it was, an didn't really feel like answering, but did anyways. "Hi." It was his dad, with Josh yelling in the background. Owen explained that him and Josh could stay together for another five minutes, but he had to go buy groceries. Kyle told his father he could probably rejoin with Kevin in a few minutes. Kyle hung up and shook his head. It wasn't fair that he had to be stuck to someone all the time and Josh didn't. Then he remembered he took the chains, so it wouldn't have made a difference. Kyle could hear Kevin in the next room, with Jake talking excitedly. Next thing he knew, Jake flew passed him and up the stairs with a quick "Hello".
"He seems happy!" Kyle said as he entered the room. He had never been inside Kyle's house before, so he picked a chair and sat in it.
"Ya, he's glad I'm home and all right." Kevin smirked, "The kid was worried about me, see how you and me left in a hurry and... not too happy."
"heh, ya." Kyle looked down and rubbed the back of his neck, "So... you know how you said you'd try and help with this chain problem?"
The smirk on Kevin's face faded as he let out a sigh, "You need to rejoin already?" Kyle just nodded. They sat where they were for a few moments before Kevin agreed. Kyle chucked one half of the chain, and put on the other. Kevin out his half on, and the two stood up and walked to each other. Their chest's touched and the joining went underway. Within seconds, they were once again a two headed version of themselves.
"Well, that should make my dad happy."
"And your brother?" Kevin teased.
"Pfft, he can go screw himself." Kyle looked to his right this time and smiled, "But at least we'll have food in the house."
A few seconds later, Jake could be heard rushing down the stairs, "Ok! I got my swim stuff on! We can go out back now, right?!" Jake jumped the last three stairs, and wheeled around the corner with the biggest smile Kyle had ever seen. "So, can we?" When he saw Kyle and Kevin, Jake looked a bit shocked. He pointed at them with a straight arm, "Hey... you guys... you're together again?" Kevin and Kyle nodded simultaneously. "But... I thought... I thought you were gonna help me with swim team drills?"
"Ya... I was but..." Kevin glanced at Kyle, "We sort of had to."
"But you promised if I did my homework last night we could." Jake said so softly, they could barely hear him.
Kevin and Kyle looked at each other. Kyle could feel the knot in their shared stomach from Kevin, and he didn't really like it. "Well... why can't he still help?" Kyle smiled at Jake, "Just because because we're a little attached to each other, doesn't mean he... WE, can't help you."
"Really?!" Jake sounded excited again and his eyes went wide.
"Ya, go on, we'll be there shortly." Kevin said. Jake's big smile came back, and he turned and went out the back door. Kyle was about to follow, but Kevin stopped him. "Dude... that was... well, it means a lot to..."
"You're welcome." Kyle smiled back at Kevin. The knot had vanished, and Kyle couldn't help feel but feel good about helping. "Now come on, he's waiting!"
