As the situation hit Nick, she found herself quickly losing control; but she caught herself, closed her eyes and took a couple of deep, calming breaths. “Okay, don’t panic Nick;” she looked down at her body, reminding herself of her current gender; “or, Niki as the case may be.” She fluttered her wings and began to fly; slowly she crossed the threshold of the ring. “Okay, whatever was keeping me in that ring is gone now, probably because it’s work was done. So the question is, who did this to me, and how can I undo it?”
Niki was distracted momentarily by the sensation of her thrumming wings. Each flitter threw off tiny pink sparks, and the wings themselves seem to make a gentle ringing sound, almost too soft to hear unless you were listening for it. Niki decided to fly a few laps around a nearby tree, just to get a feel for her new gossamer limbs. She was amazed at how powerful they were for how delicate they seemed.
“Well, I guess there’s worse things I could have been turned into.” Niki said, landing on a tree branch. “I do feel like I know how to use my magic if I need to.” Niki knew that fairies had the most powerful innate magic, being necessary for such a diminutive race to survive. “Still, I would like to get back to normal,” she looked off to the right, “and I sense significant magic in this direction.” After fashioning a dress out of flower petals from the tree, Niki jumped off the tree branch and flew off in the direction of the magic, a glowing pink trail streaking behind her.
