The transformation period on the Chronivac was set to 1,000,000 milliseconds... equivalent to 16 minutes and
40 seconds. So for just under 17 minutes, Jeff remained a small, microscopic grain of brown beach sand, as the
Chronivac was counting down the one-million milliseconds which started from the moment the transformation was
completed.
The clock ticked down, as the milliseconds raced down from the one-million mark to several thousands over a
period of just under seventeen minutes. In the meantime, Jeff remained as a lifeless grain of sand, not
knowing what was going on, or how long he would remain in that form. Then, finally, the timer on the device
passed 400,000... 300,000... 200,000... 100,000... Thousands became hundreds and then the clock reached zero.
The moment the clock reached zero, the words "BEGIN RESTORE" flashed on the computer screen, and a blue light
emitted from the tip of the Chronivac, striking the area where the grain of sand lay, which was Jeff before he
was transformed nearly seventeen minutes earlier.
The grain of sand began to expand as soon as the light struck it, growing larger and larger. As it expanded,
the shape started to change from a sphere into an oval. The oval stretched longer and longer, as it began to
take the shape of the outline of a body. On one end of the oval, the head began to form as a narrower form
beneath the head began to take shape as e head began to grow larger than the bottom half of the oval. The
middle part grew longer and wider, and two side appendages began to take shape, which morphed into arms. The
bottom part began to split in two sections down the middle, forming the legs, as the shape continued to grow.
Slowly but surely a human form began to take shape out of what used to be a simple speck of sand.
Now came the details. The head began to form into lips, a nose, ears on either side, a mouth and a chin. A
fine coat of hair started to grow on top and on the sides as well, as the tan grainy color of sand was
replaced by flesh. The neck, the shoulders, the eyebrows and fingernails began to take shape, as well as the
toes and the joints in the arms and the knees. Muscles began to form as all the bones were restored and veins
were filled with blood. All the internal organs were recreated and the nervous system was restored as well.
Within moments, the figure had reached its original height and weight as it had returned to life! He opened
his eyes and he stood up from the ground. He was alive!
"Wow!" Jeff cheered.
He had returned from being a grain of sand!
