A Fairy's Gift

added 11 years ago BM S O

“Kendra;” Millie began to say, “I think… I turned you into a fairy.”

“You?” Kendra said, surprised.

Millie clasped Kendra’s hands. “Kendra, believe me, I wanted to tell you I was a fairy since the first time I transformed; but something inside me was telling me no one must know about this, not even you; at least, not as long as you were human.”

“Yeah,” Kendra said, “I had those feelings, myself. That’s why I never said anything.”

“After a while, I started dropping subtle hints.” Millie continued. “I held out hope that maybe, you might figure it out yourself; but, I guess they were too subtle. So, knowing I could change things by filling it with my fairy magic, not to mention I had no clue what to get you for your birthday, I decided to give you the gift of being a fairy.”

Kendra couldn’t quite remember most of them, but one did stick out. It was a short conversation they had a few days before Kendra’s first transformation. “Or maybe I was just too dense to put two and two together.” She said. “I should have known it was more than mere coincidence that I turn into a fairy just days after you ask me if I think it would be fun if we were both fairies. Especially after I said how much it would.”

“Don’t blame yourself, Kendra;” Millie said as she stroked Kendra’s cheek with her hand, “as far as the two of us knew, the other thought fairies were a myth.”

“As for how I transformed you into a fairy;” Millie continued, “I flew into your room the night before your birthday and poured as much of my fairy magic into your body as I could spare, all the while I focused on turning you into a fairy. Never had I focused so hard on changing something before or since. I poured my heart into it, but when I was completely spent and you were still human, even after waiting until I regained the strength to fly, I thought it didn’t work.”

“I… guess it needed a little more time?” Kendra suggested.

“Maybe,” Millie said, “but that’s a moot point now. We’re both fairies and we both know it now.”

The two girls then returned their clothes, and then themselves, to their human sizes before starting on their homework. After a couple hours, the phone rang.

“Kendra, that was your mother on the phone;” Millie’s mom called up from downstairs, “she said to come home for dinner. Dinner’s almost ready here too, Millie.

“By the way I want to thank you for making me a fairy.” Kendra whispered as she hugged Millie before giving her a gentle kiss on the cheek.

“You’re welcome.” Millie replied. As Kendra was unlocking her car, Millie ran down the driveway to catch her. “Hey, you want to have a sleepover? There’s a full moon with clear skies tonight. It should be beautiful. Plus I could show you a few other ‘little’ things if you catch my drift.”

Kendra knew that some stories said fairies like to dance under a full moon, and this would be the first one with clear skies since she became a fairy. She found the prospect interesting. “Sure, I’d love to. Shall we meet here or at my house?”
