The sun had set, and the moon had nearly risen above the tree line. Kendra opened the door to her room and she and Millie entered. Kendra had been anticipating this moment all night, as this would be her first full moon dance as a fairy; it was almost an instinctual yearning.
“Now, let’s get our nightgowns out;” Millie said, “after we transform, we’ll be changing them into something more befitting this event.” Kendra pulled her nightgown out of her drawer as Millie pulled her own out of her suitcase.
The girls set them down on the ground and the girls began shrinking. Their clothes pooled around their bodies as their ears elongated and their wings and antennae sprang out from their hiding places. Using their magic, Kendra placed her clothes in her hamper as Millie put hers in her suitcase.
“Now, watch this.” Millie said as she enchanted her nightgown. It became like a stream of glitter, wrapping itself around Millie’s body; but what formed was not a smaller version of the same nightgown, rather an exquisite ball gown. It was a silvery-blue Victorian style gown with long sleeves that flared at the forearms and a layered, floor length skirt and a snug bodice. “Ta-da!” Millie said striking a pose. “What do you think?”
“Wow,” Kendra said, “you’re… uh… it’s beautiful! How do I make one?”
“Well, when you’re enchanting your nightgown, you want a clear picture of what you want it to become; and don’t let your mind wander or you might end up with a gown made of denim like I once did.”
Kendra imagined the most beautiful dress she had ever seen and filled her nightgown with her magic. She soon became wrapped in a stream of glitter like Millie was and felt the gown forming on her body as she held the image in her mind.
“You look like a princess!” Millie said.
Kendra flew up to her vanity mirror and Millie followed. Kendra looked over her handiwork and it was flawless; a pink gown with puffed shoulders, long snug sleeves patterned with gold that extended to cover the back of her hand, a wide floor length skirt of solid pink, and a gold patterned bodice decorated with a ruby brooch. When Millie landed beside her, she wrapped her arm around her waist and said, “We both look like princesses; fairy princesses.”
Kendra flipped the light switch as Millie opened the blinds of the window. The moonlight poured into the room and Millie and Kendra’s wings seemed to glitter more brilliantly than in any other lighting condition. They waste any time enjoying it, though, as the two fairies started to dance and twirl like ballerinas suspended in midair. Soon, the two fairies flew into each other’s arms and danced together. “This is wonderful,” Kendra said, “I feel, well, it’s indescribable. I'm glad I could share this with you, Millie.”
