Josh and Dan's costume was a big hit at the store. Finkens thought it was one of the best costumes he had ever seen, all though he wasn't sure how they fit. It didn't seem big enough for two people, and really looked as if they were sharing one body. It didn't matter. The customers were enjoying it, so he gave up trying to reason it out.
Mr. Finkens told the boys he was going to run some errands, and left them in charge of the store. Things started to die down, and there was only one person having a look at some wigs. Josh stretched out his arm and turned to Dan, "Ok, well... I'm gonna take a quick break."
"Ok, but I get one when you come back."
"Deal." Josh grinned and started to walk away. Dan felt himself moving so he grabbed onto the counter, making Josh lurch to a top. They gave each other an annoyed look, and Josh tried moving again. "Daaan, come on! I want to go on break!"
"Then go!" Dan was now pulling the other way, "I have to stay here!"
They would move a foot one way, then the other, all the while bickering and pushing each other. The customer by this time had come up to pay, and started to laugh, "You guys are funny. Do you sell that in the store? I think I might try it with a buddy of mine for Halloween."
Josh and Dan stopped their little act and were both laughing, "Nah, sorry, we made this ourselves." Josh said and started to ring up the guys purchase. He paid and left. Josh turned to look at Dan, "Man, being stuck to you sucks!"
"Ya! Same to you!" Dan said with a big smile on his face. "I wish I could get away!"
At that moment, Alex had picked up the chain he had found laying on the ground. He took a quick look around to see if anyone near by had dropped it, but there was no one to been seen. He figured he might as well keep it. There was something about it that made it... irresistible. He took another look around as he walked down the sidewalk, but still there was no one. And if there was no one around, no one would see if he took it and wore it! Alex slipped it over his head and smiled. It looked good on him, even if it did look broken. Alex took another few steps before stopping. He couldn't quite help it, but he turned around and started walking the other way. Something was calling to him, pulling him back the way he had come. He continued walking, unsure of where he was going.
Josh and Dan were still laughing when they started to feel funny. Josh watched as Dan started moving farther away. "Uh, Josh, what's going on?!" Dan spoke with panic in his voice, as he watched himself and Josh split back into two people. Dan felt a bit weird. He started walking to the door and was leaving. Josh chased after him, but made sure to lock the door behind himself. He had checked the pocket he had kept his half of the chain in, and it was gone. Instead what he found was a big hole!
"Dan! Take of your chain! Quick!" Josh called after his friend, who was now running, off the sidewalk and into some woods.
"I can't! It won't come off!" Dan was running blindly through the trees. He didn't know why, he just knew he had to. "Josh! Help!"
"Dan? DAN?!" Josh had followed him into the woods, but lost sight of him, and was now getting worried, "...Dan..."
