“We have deemed you worthy of our trust.” The fairy said. “Your fate will be your own. If you wish, I shall return you to your original size, and you may be on your way; or you may join in our celebration of the Full Moon.”
“So, what do you think,” you ask Natalie, “do you want to stick around?”
“We’re not likely to have another chance to party with fairies, sure, why not?”
“We’ll stick around if that’s okay.” You say to the fairy.
“That would be wonderful. My name is Princess Chrysanthemum Silverwing.”
“A pleasure to meet you.” You say as you introduce yourself and Natalie.
“Wow, a real fairy princess!” Natalie said excitedly.
“Now, let’s get you into something more befitting this celebration.” Chrysanthemum said as she waved her wand and turned your and Natalie’s clothes into beautiful ball gowns that shimmered like the fairies’ own.
“They’re so beautiful!” You said admiring your pink gown.
“This is fantastic! Thank you!” Natalie said posing in her sky blue gown.
In moments, the fairies were back to their celebration, with you and Natalie joining them. Chrysanthemum told the two of you a lot about the magical world. How it is a separate, yet joined world to your own, how the many fantastic beings and creatures who live there often secretly travel back and forth between them; or even live in the human world; which is how many folk stories and urban legends began; but what interested you more were the fairies themselves. They were all female with no males whatsoever. You were curious as to how that’d work, but you decided not to get too personal on biological matters. Furthermore, when two fairies married, they combined their last names. Also the nature of the Full Moon Festival and how the full moon has ties to many magical beings; the fairies loved to celebrate it.
You glance over at Natalie to see her looking up at a pair of fairies dancing in midair, their wings fluttering behind their backs. “Must be nice to be a fairy and fly.” She said.
“It has its ups and downs, like anyone’s life;” Chrysanthemum said, “but, if you’d like the experience, I could give the two of you fairy wings for the night.”
“Really?” You ask.
“Can you… turn us into actual fairies?” Natalie asked.
“That would be a bit more complicated. We would have to see my mother, the queen to get her approval; and we would have to perform a ceremony; but most importantly, you would never again be humans.” The two of you look at each other. “You could take human form and go about your lives as many from our world do, but it would be a complex endeavor.”
You and Natalie turn around and whisper to each other. Finally, you turn back to Chrysanthemum and say…
