Cassandra was fairly surprised by how all of this had progressed. Crashing onto this island, finding the oasis with the fairy, Felicity, bathing in the water of the oasis. She moved to speak with Felicity when she finished bathing, but the fairy had flown off for the moment. At that point, Cassandra had decided to enter the oasis herself, since she was fairly dirty from her shipwreck. On emerging from the waters, she found herself transforming into a fairy, herself, and fairy she had seen before, Felicity returned to the oasis area. It had been a surprise and at first she thought that the oasis had some spell on it that changed her, or that Felicity was lonely and transformed her to have another fairy to be with... but her first conversation with Felicity had proved otherwise.
Cassandra was a fairy. Had always been a fairy, but merely looked human because her mother was either a fairy in human disguise or was the descendant of a fairy who had fallen in love with a human. Which would mean that her mother, her younger sister, her aunt on her mother's side, and her grandmother on her mother's side were all fairies too. It all seemed beautiful and pretty... something out of a fairy tale (no pun intended) that she remembered from her days as a little girl.
At first she didn't want to believe it, as she had never had any experience with magic before crashing on to this island, Avalon as Felicity had said. But then things opened in her mind. Things she didn't expect. Things that were magical in nature. Things like flight on the butterfly wings on her back. She could feel the various muscle groups on her back near her wings as they contracted and relaxed to beat her wings. She knew how to use them, yet she'd never had wings before in her life. It was like she'd known she'd always had them and known she could fly... but had forgotten. And that had fueled her acceptance of what had happened. She was a fairy and would be one forever.
The thing that surprised her though was what she was doing with Felicity as the two of them fluttered in the air above the oasis. They were both locked in a rather passionate kiss. Felicity's tongue exploring her mouth as hers explored Felicity's. Her hands were resting on Felicity's hips, and Cassandra could feel Felicity's hands moving toward her butt. After a few seconds of kissing, Cassandra pulled back, a heavy blush on her checks showing her embarrassment.
"I'm sorry," Cassandra said weakly, "I... I don't know what came over me."
"It is no problem," Felicity gave a very friendly smile, "you are a beautiful fairy... and you think I am beautiful... and for the moment we are alone..."
"But we'd only just met!" Cassandra protested, "what if you already have a human boy you like? Or another fairyfriend?"
Cassandra didn't notice it, but she'd used a term that many fairies used in terms of loving relationships between fairies, rather then the boyfriend/girlfriend concept that humans used.
"I'd be making you cheat on him or her..." Cassandra said weakly.
"I have lots of fairyfriends," Felicity answered in a voice that sounded like she was trying to assure Cassandra that everything was alright, "remember that our race is entirely female. Many aspects of human sexuality doesn't apply to us. We can only have children when we mate with humans. But since only fairies can come to Avalon... outside of a wizard or something like that... our relationships here are based off of a special connection. Usually related to personalities."
"A connection?" Cassandra wondered, silently kicking herself for being so much of a novice to Felicity.
"When our heartbeat matches our wing beats," Felicity smiled, "it's how our magic tells us when we're with someone we like and love as a person. And we can feel that connection with a great many other fairies on Avalon."
"Oh... I... I think I felt that... with you..." Cassandra said slowly, her blush returning.
"I know," Felicity smiled and hugged her again, "I felt it with you too."
They spent a few more moments looking into each other's eyes before Cassandra got the courage to say something.
"You'll have to forgive me... as I'm still new with all of this," Cassandra said weakly, "perhaps you could show me around and we could get to know each other?"
"The way humans court each other?" Felicity replied, "sure. Follow me. We can fly and talk and become good fairyfriends."
