Soon, the fairy with the tiara turned around and approached you. “We have decided that you are to be given our greatest gift in exchange for keeping us a secret.” She took a deep breath, gently pursed her lips and exhaled a plume of glittering golden dust from her mouth.
The dust swirled around and engulfed you before it was absorbed into your body. Your clothing changed into a backless pink ball gown as your skin started to develop the same gentle glow as the fairies. A closer look showed that it even had a subtle glitter to it. You feel your ears begin to stretch out, sharpening to a point. Finally, a great pressure built upon your back. Four brilliant gossamer wings slowly pushed their way out of your back. It wasn’t painful; on the contrary, it almost felt like a relief, as if a great weight was being lifted off your chest. Before long, they were as big as the other fairies’ wings.
You look over your new body, especially, your shimmering new appendages. “I have wings!” You whisper. Taking a short hop into the air, you flutter your wings and hover for a few seconds. The sound can only be described as ‘the sound of sparkling’. “I can fly!” You twirl in midair giggling before landing at the feet of the fairy; who was right in saying this was their greatest gift. “Thank you so much… but, wait, is this permanent, uh, sorry, but what is your name?”
“My apologies; I am Princess Chrysanthemum Silverwing;” she said, “and, while you will be a fairy forever; you are free to resume your life by disguising yourself as a human. Or, if you wish, you may live with us.”
With that bit of information reassuring her she placed her hand on Chrysanthemum's shoulder and said, “Thank you Princess. I’ll cherish my gift forever; and I’ll keep your secret.”
