“What!” Kendra shouted. “Turn you into a fairy? I… I don’t think I can do that.”
“C’mon Kendra, you know I’ve always wanted to be a fairy.” Millie said.
“Yeah, when you were seven, but it’s not that I don’t want to, it’s just… I don’t have that good a grasp on my powers yet. I’ve only just started trying to shrink my clothes as I transform so I don’t have to rely on my doll dress so much.”
Millie became disappointed. “Alright.”
Kendra thought a moment, “Tell you what, if I can successfully shrink my clothes, then I’ll shrink you to fairy size and take you flying. How’s that?”
Millie immediately cheered up. “That’d be great!”
Millie watched as Kendra closed her eyes and concentrated, a pink glow enveloping her clothes. She began to shrink along with her clothing as her ears slowly elongated and her antennae sprouted. Her clothing had kept up with her ever-diminishing height; Millie leaned around to look at Kendra’s back and saw small slits appearing on the back of her shirt, which acquired stitching around the edge as if it were designed that way. Poking through the slits were small, translucent pink wings that steadily expanded. Millie was awestruck at seeing her best friend sprouting fairy wings.
With the transformation finished, Kendra stood up on her bed, looked over her clothing and let out a few squeaks.
“Did you say something?” Millie asked.
“Oh, sorry.” Kendra said in her normal voice. “I said, ‘Well I’d say that was a success.’”
“Okay, my turn!” Millie said.
“Alright then; brace yourself.”
Kendra held her hands out to Millie, who started to glow pink like Kendra’s clothes. Millie slowly shrunk in size, clothes and all. Within a mere moment, Millie was the same size as Kendra. “Wow, this is neat!” Millie said in a high-pitched voice.
“Can you understand me?” Kendra said in an equally high-pitched, but audible voice.
“Yes.” Millie answered.
“Good, then I don’t need my voice spell when you’re fairy size.” Kendra walked behind Millie and wrapped her arms around her waist. “Let’s fly.” Kendra’s wings fluttered and she and her shrunken friend lifted off the bed.
They spent several minutes flying around the house before landing on Kendra’s desk. “That was so fun!” Millie said. “Hey, let’s have a sleepover tonight and go to bed like this. You can create an illusion so your parents won’t find out if they check on us.”
Kendra smiled at the thought. “Sounds interesting. Okay, let’s do our homework, then we’ll ask my parents.”
Kendra’s parents approved and that night, Kendra, in her fairy form and Millie, shrunk to fairy size, both in their nightgowns, stood on Kendra’s bed. Kendra pointed her hand and the doorknob began to glow pink. “I enchanted the doorknob, so if anyone opens it, they’ll see the illusion of me in my bed and you in the sleeping bag on the floor. That’s so I don’t have to maintain the spell myself.”
“Okay, that should work.” Millie said as she walked over to the pillow began to lift the sheets.
“Millie,” Kendra said, “I’ve thought about it, and… I want to try to turn you into a fairy.”
“Really?” Millie chimed.
“Yes.” Kendra said as she pointed her hands at Millie. “Here goes nothing.”
Kendra concentrated hard; her hands began to glow as, like earlier, Millie began to glow pink. However, nothing happened. Kendra did not give up, though as she poured nearly all the magic she had into Millie, but still, nothing. Eventually, she stopped and fell to her hands and knees, panting. “S… Sorry.”
“It’s okay, you tried your best. C’mon, let’s get you to bed.” Millie helped Kendra into bed. Beneath the covers, Kendra fell asleep quickly and Millie, lying beside her, smiled at her sleeping fairy friend.
