Cady turned to the pig next to her, a girl as she had noticed, and simply tried whether she could still speak. To her amazement what sounded like pig squeals to any human sounded like clear speech to her and apparently also to the girl. To Cady's introduction of herself she replied: "I'm Stacy. Nice to meet you, even if this is all not really nice. I heard they take us to a farm in Kansas. So it might be quite a right." Cady nodded mournfully to this. Indeed, they were being driven for hours and hours. At some point Cady noticed that pig shit was dropping on her and she had to realize that the trailer had several decks and she was on the lowest. When Stacy felt the shit as well she remarked: "You can't blame anybody. You will notice yourself. You cannot control your going to toilet anymore, it just comes and rushes out. Piggish behaviour, I'm afraid." And really, a little while after Cady felt pee and shit, which were her own this time, drop down behind her and leaving a wet mark on her rear legs. Stacy turned to her again and said: "You have to arch your back and spread your legs, like a real pig would do. Then its easier!" Upon Cady's question as to where she had such deep knowledge of pigs from, she answered: "My uncle has a pig farm, you know. I used to help him in the summer, so I know quite a lot about it. Luckily enough the farm is not in Kansas. I think I couldn't stand that. Being a pig on the farm I used to work at, what a crazy idea!" After a little pause, she took up the dialogue again: "I can also tell you what will happen to us now. We're all at roughly 25 kg now, so more large piglets really. I wonder why the transformation leads to such a weight loss." Just when Cady realized she was right, Stacy continued: "So we have another 4 to 8 months probably. Depends on how heavy they want us since we pick up round about 700g a day. If we're to be bacon and ham, they'll want us rather heavy, if it's for barbecue meat, they prefer the leaner pigs." Shocked by her own words, Stacy fell silent and so did Cady, wrapped in dull silence.
