"Let's transform and see how long we can hide in plain sight," Dawn said softly. The way she said it sent a shiver up Zack's spine. The idea was foolish, he knew that. But he smiled and nodded in agreement.
"Okay! So where do you want to go?" Zack said, standing up on his hooves.
"Take it easy, tiger. One step at a time. First, let's change back to normal." Dawn began punching more buttons on the remote to recall their original forms. Within seconds, their horns, fur, and other satyr traits had vanished, leaving them standing barefoot on the parking lot pavement. Zack felt how hot the pavement was for the first time with his human feet.
"I'm going to set our next transformation to last a while. Now, let's disable the bystander settings so everyone will notice our changes AND probably begin to wonder what's up."
Zack was getting riled up just thinking about it. He watched eagerly as Dawn set a more complicated transformation into the remote. "It's not going to be easy...especially if we grow horns."
"Then we'll have to improvise some disguises," Dawn winked. "It's a game. See how far into our transformations we can go before we're found out. That's why I made us human again, so we have time to go around and think of how to cover up."
"Dawn, you are brilliant," Zack said, standing next to her and putting his hands on her shoulders. They stared at each other for a second, rather awkwardly, and Zack backed away with a silly smile. He crossed his arms and paced, almost skipping, as he waited anxiously for Dawn to finish whatever she was programming. His heart was beating fast. He'd never felt like this before.
"What transformation are you setting?" he wondered aloud.
"I was going to turn us back into satyrs, with a few customizations. But if you've got something else you want to try, I'm all for it."
Zack's mouth went crooked as he thought about their options.
