”Now, you see, I haven’t actually changed reality all that much,” explained Loki. “I have essentially only changed one pair of Charles’s chromosomes, and that only affects her outward appearance. She still thinks like a boy, and so, among other things, she doesn’t know much about women’s fashion, and prefers to wear men’s or unisex clothes.”
”Oh,” said Mary Ellen, a bit disappointed. She asked, “But could you change that?”
”Of course,” said Loki. “That’s one of the special abilities I was planning to give Charles. She’s not used to shopping for women’s clothing, having to deal with the styles and the sizes and all of that. I’ll make it much easier -- any clothing she puts on will magically become the correct size, and will alter itself to a more feminine style if necessary. If she owns the article of clothing, it will be a permanent transformation the first time she puts it on. If it’s borrowed or being tried on at a store, the change will be temporary.”
”That sounds wonderful!” exclaimed Mary Ellen. “I wish I had that ability.”
The charming Loki smiled at her. “Perhaps I’ll see what I can do once I’m finished with Charles.”
Charles finally spoke up. “But I like dressing like this!”
”Oh, please,” said her mother, “What’s the sense of being changed into a girl if you aren’t going to dress like one? This power really will make your life much easier. Mr. Loki, please go ahead.”
Loki did his pointing-two-fingers routine -- not actually necessary, but he felt it added to the showmanship -- and pushed the unique ability into Charles. Almost instantly, the red T-shirt’s sleeves disappeared and neckline lowered as it became a tank top obviously intended for a female; her jeans fused together and shrank to become a denim skirt, its lower hem halfway up her thigh; and the white athletic socks she’d been wearing became a pair of sandals.
”There, now you look a little more like a girl,” said the impressed Mary Ellen. “But I think she could use something else, too.”
