.... a chimera. She had the legs of an ostrich, a kangaroo pouch, a crocodile tail, goat horns, hare ears, and a feline face. She was mostly
human, but just as much all the other animals that made up her DNA. Lucky for her, she had clothes that fit her body on.
"Jennifer!" she heard her mom calling "breakfast is ready."
So she ran down to find her mom making breakfast - she was a chimera too. She looked just like her, but older.
"Here you go." she said "Now eat up, dear." It was a plate full of eggs, seed, carrots, and fish.
Jen ate her breakfast, and thanked her mom. "You know we're chimeras, right?" she asked.
"Of course dear," she gently said "but I told you before - we're natural-born chimeras descended from the ones made from alchemy. Don't you
remember your history class? Making chimeras has been outlawed since the 'Tucker' incident of the 1940's. It didn't stop people from more
experiments, but the ones created were allowed to have offspring, and that's how our family exists in the first place. Being a chimera is nothing
to be ashamed of. We won the battle for racial equality in the 1960's, so there's no need to worry."
Then Jen's ears picked up the sound of the bus. "I gotta go!" she grabbed her lunch bag, her mom gave her a goodbye lick on the cheek, and
she ran out the door to the bus.
Once she got inside, she saw her best friend Melissa - or at least this world's version of her - she was a homunculus with green eyes, long, red
hair, and an ouroboros birthmark on the right side of her neck. Like most of her kind, she also had red lines on her body, slit pupils, and sharp
teeth. Her dad was human, but her mom was a homunculus, so she was a half-breed, but like Jen's kind, her kind had also gained equality with
humans.
"Hey Jen," she smiled with her sharp teeth "I saved you a seat."
"Thanks." she said, and sat next to her.
Jen saw there were just as many chimeras and homunculi as there were humans, so she didn't feel so out-of-place.
"So are you ready for the dance tonight?" Melissa asked.
"Dance?" Jen asked, surprised.
"Ha! Just kidding!" Melissa said, smiling "It's next week, remember?"
"Oh, right." Jen said "I don't know."
"I'm sure you'll find someone in time." Melissa encouraged her "You know how popular you are at school with the guys - I think it's the ostrich
legs."
This made her smile a bit. This was going to be a very interesting school day for her.
