Their english class had gone off with much of a problem. Today the class had been doing a movie study about Shakespeare, and Mark agreed to take notes, seeing how Luke was writing in chicken scratch, and wouldn't be able to understand his. Luke had rested his arm on the desk and had been holding up his head, but Mark had been trying to lean back in their seat. They had gone back and forth through both positions numerous times though out the movie, and were about to squabble when they felt their stomach grumble. They looked at each other with a smile, knowing that the other had felt it too. So enough, the bell rang for lunch.
Luke and Mark quickly put their books back in their bag, and got up, leaving the classroom. They remembered where their shared locker was now, and each remember part of their combo. They dropped of their books, and grabbed the lunch that Luke's mom had prepared for them this morning. The boys grabbed the stuff they would need for their next class, and headed off into the hallways to their usual hang out spot. As they were walking, Luke glanced off to his his, and saw a small group of guys point in their direction and snicker. Luke did a double take over his shoulder, and wondered what that had been about. Mark noticed his shoe was untied, so he stopped them just on the other side of a corner.
"Did you see them?" "Haha, ya! They're freaky!" "I know right! Two heads! I can't believe it!"
Mark and Luke stood up straight, a mix of emotions passed through their body. Luke was immediately angry, and tried to go back around the corner. However Mark stood motionless. He couldn't believe what he had just heard. He wasn't anywhere near as popular as Max, and was use to people giving him looks, but he had never heard them say anything. "What the fuck? Mark, come on! I want to see who the hell that was!" Luke was yanking on Mark's arm, but he wouldn't budge. "Mark?! ... Mark?"
"What's the point?" Mark started to walk again, "Like punching them is going to do an good? Come on, let's just go see our friends." Luke wanted to resist, but knew better than to start a fight with Mark at school. They continued outside, and were relieved to see Max. Mark smiled and waved. "Hey guys!"
"We're here!" Luke chimed in with a grin. Max was seated on the ground, with Allan, Dean, and Cody gathered around. Mark and Luke took their usual spot, and began to eat. Even though Mark and Luke were stuck in one body, and their lives had been entwined poorly, at least their friends were still the same.
"Finally the Two-Headed Duo shows up!" Dean gave Mark's shoulder a light punch.
"Fuck!" Cody stared at them, "You two look like shit! What the hell happened? You get in a fight or something?!"
"Dam, I'd hate to see who lost!" Allan gave Luke's side a nudge with his arm.
Luke grinned at Mark, "Actually I think it was a tie."
"Pfft!" Mark rolled his eyes, "Only because your dad came in and 'separated' us."
Everyone except Max exchanged worried looks. Dean leaned forward a bit, "Wait... You guys fought each other?"
The conjoined pair shrugged in unison. Luke had his mouth full, so Mark spoke, "It happens from time to time. You can't be this close to someone and not get on each others' nerves." Mark took a bite of their sandwich and smiled. Luke swallowed, "Exactly! Imagine if you and Cody were stuck together, I'm sure you'd get sick of each other at some point too!"
Dean and Cody glanced at each other, and grinned. Dean stood up, motioning for Cody to as well, and once he had, Dean quickly looped their belts together. They instantly started to pull away from each other. "Dude, come on!" "No way man, this way!" Everyone laughed for a minute before they gave up, and Dean sat down, dragging Cody with. They continued their conversations, and every now and then Cody and Dean would try to pull apart again, to the amusement of the group. Sadly the bell rang again, and everyone had to head off back to their classes. However, Mark and Luke felt a little bit better, knowing that the friends they had made while separate, were still there for them.
