Ethan felt a strange sensation, like a static shock or maybe pins-and-needles, or a mixture of both, spread across his body. Then, with a lurch like just before a fall, he began to shrink. His body got smaller and slimmer and his face and skin became smoother and softer, with his larynx shrinking and causing his voice to go up in pitch to a boyish timbre.
Then, as suddenly as it had begun, the changes stopped. Ethan rushed to the bathroom, the world looking larger around him, and when he looked in the mirror he saw that the spell had worked like a charm. Staring back at him was an athletic ten-year old in an oversized shirt and jeans, with dirty blond hair that reached the top of his neck and blue-grey eyes. "I'll have to get some new clothes or something," he said in his new, boyish voice.
Before he dealt with that problem, or continued having fun with the book, he wanted to do one more thing for himself. He'd seen it in the book and, if the age reversal worked than he saw no reason for this not working. So, after rolling up his jeans and pulling the belt so it was as tight as possible, he returned to his bedroom and grabbed the book. He scrolled through the available spells until he saw the one he was after. "Immortal," he said.
Immediately his body filled with a... something. He couldn't describe it, but the closest he could come would be 'warmth'. That didn't do it justice either. There was just this feeling that hadn't been there before, that the spell had worked and that he would now never age or die. But at the same time he did feel rather fatigued, like he'd just had to run around the block. "Oh right," he muttered as his gaze fell on the descriptions of the spells, "Energy. I must have worn myself out with two spells so close together."
After a short rest spent playing Call of Duty he decided it was time to get to doing more with the situation he found himself in. "There're those other books that Saphira's trusting me to find, but some experime- er, practice with the time one could be 'educational'. And I really do need to get more clothes. Hmm."
