As much as Ethan wanted to try some of the more advanced spells, he wasn't really certain about his ability to cast them. Some of the more interesting ones required greater amounts of energy, and he still wasn't really sure how much he would be able to afford.
He was preparing to find someone else to cast a spell on when he came upon a small trinkets shop. He'd seen it before, they sold typical mystical replica items; Excaliburs, fairy statues, genie lamps, and so on; mostly catering to fantasy nerds. Normally he didn't pay it a glance, and in his new form he hardly looked like the kind of kid who had any interest in that sort of thing, but what caught his eye was an old looking book on display in the window, almost identical to the normal form of the Book of Time. However instead of the deep blue of the time book it was a deep rust-red colour.
Ethan was sure it was one of the other books, so he quickly turned into the shop and saw the shopkeeper, a slightly overweight middle-aged man with glasses and a receding hairline. "Hey gramps," Ethan said to him, resting his arms on the counter, "What's that book in the window there?"
"Shouldn't you be in SportChek or something kid?" the man replied "I don't want you skater types coming in here and harassing my customers."
"I'm not like that," Ethan said, feeling offended.
"Then maybe it's best to not start by referring to me as 'gramps'."
"Oh, sorry," Ethan replied sincerely, "So what's that book there?"
"Not sure, I found it in my garage a couple nights ago and thought it would be perfect for my store."
"Think I could buy it off you?"
"Hmm, well..."
