“As I can now take human form out of water, you can now become a mermaid when submerged. But I swear, I only just found out about this whole mess from my sister after telling her about you. I never would have even considered asking for a kiss if I had the first clue this would happen.”
“So, you get to walk on legs and I get to sprout a tail?” I shouted. “It sounds like I got the bum deal out of it!”
Serenity folded her arms. “I’d hardly call breathing underwater, magical power and beauty that will last all the days of your greatly lengthened life a bum deal.”
“Still, one surprise downpour, and I’m flopping around on the sidewalk like a goldfish out of its bowl.” I said, folding my own arms.
“Unless you fall into a pothole that completely submerges your legs in water, that’s not likely to happen. That’s what it takes to trigger our change.”
“Well, I guess that’s a plus.” I said.
Serenity put her hand on my shoulder. “Melissa, I am so sorry about this.”
I looked into Serenity’s eyes. Her expression was of the sincerest remorse. “I forgive you Serenity.” I said, and I kissed my friend on the lips. “Now I’m kind of curious about my tail. I take it it’ll be lavender too?”
“Only one way to find out.”
