“Are you kidding me?” Lina cried, “Of course I do!”
“Thank you so much,” Amy said happily, “No let’s get started, take everything off.”
“What?” Lina said, surprised a little, “Oh right, I don’t want to ruin any clothes.” She quickly took off all
of her clothes, and jumped into the pool with Amy.
“Okay Lina,” Amy said as she took a pearl from the box near her. “Here’s the first pearl. Now the trick is to
plug your nose so you have to swallow to breath. Don’t worry, it gets easier each time.”
Lina took the pearl, and nodded to Amy. She then put her pearl in her mouth, plugged up her nose, and forced
herself to swallow the pearl hole. After gagging a little she felt a weird sensation at her sides and at her
neck. She then went under water as her changes started. As she sank slit-like openings appeared on the sides
of her body and her neck, and as her body adjusted on the inside, Lina could breathe again through her new
gills.
“I’m breathing,” Lina said as she suddenly realized she was talking underwater. she quickly looked at her
sides to see her gills pulseing. “This feels amazing.” She then swam up to the surface again to meet up with
Amy. “Amy it worked.”
“It sure did,” Amy said, impressed a little. “Ready for the next one.”
“I sure am,” Lina said excitedly, taking another pearl from her friends webbed hands, and quickly swallowing
it with a little more ease. Then she began to feel another sensation in her hands and feet. She looked at her
hands and feet to watch as webbing grew between her fingers, and her toes grew longer and thinner as webbing
grew between them. However, the membrane seemed different as compared to Amy’s. Her Webbing was a lightish
grey color, and was slightly thicker between her fingers, and her feet’s webbing grew so thick that it blended
with her toes, becoming thick, plain, grey flippers.
“Grey?” Lina said, “That’s a little bland.”
“Wait a second, Lina,” Amy explained, “Judging by the coarseness and the thickness, I think you might have the
features of dolphin.”
“Really?” Lina said with excitement.
“Either that or a shark,” Amy added.
“Oh,” Lina said with a little nervousness, “I hope it’s a dolphin. But if it is, why would I have gills.”
“Well no matter what kind of merfolk it is,” Amy explained, “All of them have gills in order to live
underwater.”
“I guess that makes sense,” Lina agreed.
“Well we can stop for now if you want,” Amy said, “Or do you want to keep going?”
