Mike, James and Josh had all had a pretty rough time of it. The three of them sat in their usual skate park, alone, contemplating everything that had happened. All three of them wore jeans and shirts, as baggy as they could to hide the inescapable truth of their predicament; that despite their lives up until now, they were now all girls.
“I locked myself in my room until you guys phoned.” Mike finally spoke, not breaking eye contact with the blade of grass she’d been staring at until now. “I wanted to wake up, forget it all had happened, but every time I went to the bathroom, or look in the mirror, or even shifted my weight, I knew it was real.” She cupped her modest C-cup breasts in exasperation.
“My mom forced me to go shopping with her. I had to buy underwear, skirts, the whole thing.” Josh contributed. “It was like God was laughing at me. Like he was saying ‘yes you’re a girl and I’m going to rub it in’. My mom thought I was playing a joke on her, like it was April fools or something. I wanted to get my hair cut short so I wouldn’t have it hanging in my eyes all the time but she said it wasn’t very lady like of me and ended the conversation.”
James was about to say something, contribute, but everything had already been said. Finally she muttered, “My name is now Jane” The other two nodded.
“I wouldn’t complain too much if I were you. It could be worse” Came an unknown new voice to the trio. They turned to the source of the comment and saw Sam, or at least what they assumed to be Sam, and a young girl, probably only about 8 years old, standing with her.
“Sam?” Mike asked confirming his suspicions. Unlike the others, Sam was wearing a denim shorts and a tight top, which accentuated her not too humble bust.
“That’s me,”
“And who’s this?”
Sam and Will looked at each other, unsure how best to answer it. Finally Will piped up with a sigh. “I’m Will.”
The group seemed shocked at the news. It took quite a bit of calming down to explain everything that had happened and to convince them they were in little danger of catching any sort of age regression virus. Once the rukus died down they moved on to discussing the finite details of there lives that they’d managed to piece together. It seemed there was more to their lives than simply skating, as had been the case prior to the gender shift. Sam, in a rare moment of clarity, perhaps brought on by a new found confidence in herserlf, had brought along the school yearbook. Mike went by Michele, a modest low achiever who was a decent member of the swim team. Josh was Josie, a cheerleader, though not the captain. James, as had already been noted, was Jane, or Janie as she preferred. She was more into arts than the others. Clearly skating wasn’t top of the groups priorities any more.
“This is pathetic.” Will shouted as she rose from her seat. “You all treat this like a defeat, well if you ask me the battle isn’t over.”
“Will, if we argue with those Witch girls they’ll make us young too, perhaps even worse.” Michelle sobbed, upset by just thinking about it.
“I’m not talking about changing back, I’m talking about living. You guys clearly have decent lives. Girls or not, are you really going to throw away sports, or success, by locking yourselves in your rooms. We were nothing before this happened, and we’ve got a fresh start. If we can’t change back, then I’m not going to let those girls know they’ve won.”
With that Will grabbed the skate board lying on the ground nearby. She had no idea what she was doing, but she was going to do it. 8 years old or not, she was a good skater and it didn’t matter what anyone said or did.
What followed was an amazing display of skill and stamina. Will ollied and spun like the best skaters in the country, made even more impressive by her apparent age. The others watched in awe, before grabbing a skateboard themselves and joining in the fun. A few passers by stopped and stared, more at Will and her skill than the others, who’d not quite found the shift in balance as easy to adapt to. Will didn’t know what was going to happen, but she was certainly more confident with her friends around than she had been before.
