“How romantic,” Ophelia said, her hands folded over her chest and her wings fluttering behind her back, “two lost loves reunited by the same magic that separated them a year ago. It’s as if the goddesses themselves willed that you be together as fairies.”
Sarah smirked. “She’s really into romance;” She turns to you, “as for you, it does get easier, trust me.”
“Being a fairy?” you ask.
“Being a girl.” Sarah replied.
Your eyes grew wide. “You mean…”
“That’s right, my name was Silas before I was gifted with this body.” She said, posing with her wings flared. “It took me a some time to get used to it, but I did, and it’s been wonderful; even after 150 years.”
“It’s still going to be tough, isn’t it?” you say, picking up a blueberry.
“Quite tough;” Kaylee said, “in fact, no one expects a former human to be fully comfortable with it right away. Men have to deal with suddenly being women, and women have to deal with being attracted to other women.”
“I suppose lesbians would have it easiest, huh?” You say with an awkward smile before taking a bite out of the blueberry.
“You’d be surprised how much of an adjustment it is even for them;” Ophelia said, “but the rings never choose anyone who can’t handle it.”
“Choose? You mean; I was chosen to be a fairy?” You ask.
“Not all rings can turn people into fairies,” Kaylee said, “and the ones that do, seldom encounter those who can handle their new life. That’s why you almost never hear about these kinds of disappearances. Heck, us two being transformed in such a short span from the same ring is unheard of.”
“Well, I’m still uncomfortable with this whole fairy thing, but I’ll do my best to adjust.” You said as you finished off the blueberry and wiped the juice from your mouth.
“Lilly!” Sarah shouted. You look straight up to see a young, light-brown skinned fairy, five years old by human appearance, fluttering around a bird’s nest. “What did I tell you about playing in nests?” Sarah flew up to the fairy child.
“Excuse us for a moment. Our little pixie is getting into mischief again.” Ophelia said before following her wife up.
“That Lilly is such a handful to her mothers; and to think, Sarah has another sprite on the way.” Kaylee said.
“Pixie; sprite?” You ask.
“Oh, that’s what we call our children. Pixies are fairy children, and sprites are fairy babies.”
“And how does…uh?” You ask before cutting yourself off.
“Well, I’ll be glad to show you later tonight, if you want.” Kaylee whispered into your ear, her cheek brushing up against yours.
