It was the beginning of the summer and as many others, I was flat broke. Since my 'rents didn't want to
continue support my other expenses I was forced to look for a summer job. I looked at the usual burger joint
and supermarket, but I came upon an ad of a job for the summer with a huge pay. The downside was that it was a
month-long stay-in job. But I didn't have to do anything else for the rest of the summer afterward. I quickly
sent my application and almost as quickly the response came telling me to report for in place.
I arrived baggage in hand at the farm. It looked like an old fashioned farm run by a old man and his wife. He
told me that they had had the farm in the family for a long time, but their sons, decided not to stay and
rather study psychology, neurobiology and electronics, leaving the old pair alone, so they hired young
farmhands every summer to tend for it. There were about 9 other farmhands, but I had been the last hired, each
already been there for a week. The first thing I noticed was there clothesware. Men wore denim overalls, no
shirt, were barefooted and had a straw hat. While the girls (5 of them) cut-off jean shorts a red spotted tied
up blouse and also straw hat. When asked about it the couple told me it was the uniform that I too was
required to wear. It fill them with nostalgia said the couple. I wasn't too happy about it, but then again the
pay was very good, so anything they wanted I suppose.
They kindly took my luggage and hand me down the 'uniform' which I was to put it on immediately. They told me
that I had not to wear underwear either. That was definitively odd but again they pay. Then they invited me
for breakfast before beginning work. They called the other farmhands as well. All were about my age, there I
noticed something odd. We came in pairs: a pair of red heads, of blacks, of latinos, blonds and a caucasian
girl. That was odd, but I thought of it as nothing more than a weird coincidence, beside the food was
delicious. Afterward they told us to wash up, the others returned to work, except for three, the blond guy,
the red hair girl and the latin girl. They were to accompany me to my first task, but first I they had me
signing a contract, and confessed they deceive me as the pay was actually LARGER than advertised. I was so
