the combine harvestor in the equipment hangar
And I mean hangar,not shed,barn or shop.
It seems the old couples grandparents had acquired the land and buildings where a old airship base used to be,till the Akrona crashed into Lake Erie in the 1920s.
After that Canada got out of the airship race and the fed's had sold the old base ,and land,to the grandparents.
So I walked toward the 90 foot tall 800 foot long hangar with a bit of awe.
Inside I found various farm machinery,as well as the labs the psychologist, the neurobiologist and the
AI electronics engineer had diddled in before they left the farm 10 years earlier.
My job was to oil and grease the combine, and get it back into running order.
It was a huge hulking black thing, with triple V8 detroit diesels sitting well back from the drivers cabin.
The thing was obviously several old combines put back together as this one,and on the panel where the threshing cylinder was housed I could see the 3 farm sons
had painted a white oval with a black dragon image over that.
The letters
"DARK MOMMA"
had been painted below the dragon silouette.
I slowly walked around the thing, noting all the hydraulic lines, cylinders, servo motors and
mystery runes on the sides.
Finally I got back to the operators platform and climbed up the rung ladder 2 stoies to the closed hatch.I swung it
open and climbed into the command post.
It looked like a mini starship in there, complete with many 1980's era computer tape drives and
monitors.
Alas all appeared dead.I looked at the auxillary battery voltmeter and noted with dismay the
needle sat at the "Zero" mark...
