Grumbles From The "Grave"

added by Fitzroy Clement 10 years ago TG O

The sound of an old episode of "Alfred Hitchcock Presents"(specifically it was "Man From The South") could be
heard throughout the decrepit, creaking house of one Edmund Hodgson, aged "none of your business". Sorcerer
extraordinaire, the keeper of secrets man wasn't yet meant to know but discovered anyway, he was very lonely
and very set in his ways. What's more, the two of those traits were inextricably linked, meaning nothing more
than that he's a stubborn old bastard who's equal in a debate was a brick wall. Hearing the sound of his late
wife's old french phone, he hobbled over to the next room to pick it up.

"Who is it?" he asked, in his most gruff manner.

"It's me, Uncle Edmund! Your nephew, Paul!"

"Oh, so it is. How's that spellbook you NEVER GAVE BACK TO ME?"

Paul turned to his wife and laughed nervously. "Sorry about that, I'll return it as soon as I can find you.
Speaking of which, I got married! What do you think of that?"

"Why I, I think that's wonderful" replied Edmund. Edmund had gone out of his way to avoid contact with anyone,
living like an urban hermit by giving his address or contact info to no one. Hell, he didn't any bills that
needed to be paid. Everything worked on his own power in his household.

"I think having a wife, or a companion, is the most wonderful thing a person can have in this life, or any
other. Truly, you are lucky, Paul. What's the broad's name? Does she have a good body?"

"Her name's Eve, and yes, she does. A smoking one. And to top it all off, she's not a bimbo! Far from it,
she's got to be the most independent, intelligent gal I ever met."

"How'd you wrangle her down, then?" chuckled Edmund.

"We just..clicked. That's part one of why I wanted to call you, Uncle Edmund. You see, my wife, she claims
that just before she could say 'I Do', she was walloped with an influx of memories from my old friend Timmy
Sherman. She claims that when we were both fifteen, me and Timmy I mean, I accidentally traded his soul for
the soul of an old woman's, and he died in that old woman's body. Then he died, and was reincarnated as Eve.
Meanwhile, her theory is that the old woman was magically compelled into thinking that she was Timmy this
whole time. Did you get all that, or do you need me to repeat myself?"

There was a long pause for a few moments.

"Paulie?"

"Yes, Uncle Edmund?"

"I-"
