Now once apon a time the elves of Friesland were having a firedrake problem. One of the human slaves
had snuck into the dragons lair, stolen a golden cup,amd now the enraged firedrake was torching
elven villages.
A band of human warriors for hire, led by a strapping fellow named
Beowulf came along, and for a price, offed the dragon.
The worm's corpse had been tossed into the raging sea far below the cave cliff, and Beowulf ,mortally
wounded, had sailed off with his men for parts unknown.
Decades later, following a storm, the elven beachcombers came across a huge dragon's skull as big
as a hill washed ashore, buried partway in the wet sands.
Its eye sockets were as big as cave entrances, and though the elves could
scarce believe it,theskull showed the fracture wound of a sword just where beowulf
had struck the firedrake decades earlier.
Either the skull had somehow growninsize due to the affects of water on it,or
the elves had shrunk...
