Ambrose shook his head and sighed as Kenneth the mutt hung over the stray bitch's back. The two animals were tied together now, and had to wait until the newly transformed canine's knot relaxed. After a couple of minutes, Kenneth pulled free and instinctive licked the slick red shaft between his legs, then jerked his head away as he seemed to realize what he was doing. The other three officers laughed at the dog that seemed embarrassed, then went back into the station.
Kenneth shook himself, yipped at the bitch who was already running off, and then walked to Ambrose with his head hanging low. Ambrose patted the mutt on the head. "Don't worry about it. You're a dog now, and that's something dogs do. Get used to it."
Kenneth's head dropped even lower, making him look like a beaten animal. From what little Ambrose knew of the young officer, Kenneth had a lot to lose. He had been handsome, young, and happy in his job. Now he was a huge mutt with maybe ten years to live.
Kneeling beside the dog, Ambrose stroked his head. "It's gonna be OK. I'll keep you safe. My landlord doesn't like big dogs, but as long as you behave..."
Kenneth's ears perked up suddenly, and a low growl came from his throat. Looking back, Ambrose saw that Scneller was already walking out of the police station! The man responsible for the young officer's transformation must have been released without bail.
"No, boy." Ambrose held the animal back. The professor hadn;t seen them, and was walking the other way.
The dog whined softly, then pawed at Ambrose's foot. He looked pointedly at the professor, and then back up at Ambrose. "What is it boy? You want to follow him?"
A soft yip and nod of the head answered yes. They watched Schneller get into a cab, and head off. Kenneth started towards the parking lot where Ambrose's car was parked. He looked back and yipped again.
"OK. Let's see what the bastard is up to." Ambrose ran for his car, opening the door so the dog could jump in. It was easy to catch up to the cab - Schneller was heading home. They stayed back a block and stopped short of the condo. Kenneth whined and pawed at the car door.
"You want to get out?" Another yip. "I don;t know what this will do for you, boy. I mean, if this was done by some sort of magic and the item is gone..."
Kenneth growled and yipped.
Ambrose suddenly felt like banging his head against a wall. "But he wouldn't have, would he? I'm an idiot! A man like Schneller would never flush something that powerful. Maybe we can get you turned back to human after all!"
He got out and followed the transformed policeman along the sidewalk towards Schneller's condo. Instead of going to the front, however, the big mutt led him around the back. Lights were coming on inside, and Ambrose crouched down just in time to see the professor enter what looked like an office.
Schneller did not see them through the window, searching for something in his desk. When he stood up, something shiny glinted in his hand. A pendant on a chain.
With a growl, Kenneth suddenly launched himself through the window, hitting Schneller in the chest and knocking the Medallion from his hand. By the time Ambrose climbed in after him, the dog had the chain in his mouth, and was already starting to change.
Ambrose tackled the professor as he tried to scramble up. "Oh no you don't!" Schneller struggled for a moment, but was in much worse shape than the officer, and gave up.
"Something went wrong!" A new voice spoke behind them. Turning, Ambrose was started to see that where the ugly mutt of a dog had been was now a...
