The pitter-patter of rain on his bedroom window awoke Jay. He blinked blearily and looked at his clock.
6:00am
He sat up and stretched. He looked over at the other bed in the room, in which lay Mark, still asleep. Jay stood up, feeling his weight. He'd certainly gained a few pounds since high school. Mark was still in good shape, though. Though they were identical twins, the two were beginning to look quite different.
Jay made his way to the bathroom and looked at himself in the mirror. His face had become somewhat round, with a second chin beginning to show. His facial hair was in a shape of a sculpted goatee, with thick morning stubble filling in the rest of his beard area. His receded hairline made him look a decade older than he actually was, which was 24.
Looking down, Jay could see thick hair, which was his family's trademark, covering his forearms, chest and stomach. His gut had begun to stick out over the waistband of his boxers. It wouldn't be long before it would start to droop over them. He was nearly as heavy as his father, now. Feeling his back, Jay felt hair there, too. Not unexpected given his genetics. At least he didn't have moobs. There was still quite a bit of muscle under the flab. Stepping on the scale, Jay saw the readout display "235". Yeah, he was certainly giving his father a run for his money in the weight area. He used to be in such good shape in high school.
The day continued as they usually did. Mark acted a little strangely, though, being sure to catch a glimpse of everybody as soon as they woke up. Simon seemed to have a little more grey in his beard and Bryan's face seemed a bit more wrinkled.
"Something the matter?" Jay asked his twin brother.
"No. Nothing," Mark answered, perhaps a little too quickly.
Jay was suspicious, but didn't ask anything else. He'd just have to wait and see what had Mark acting funny. Maybe he'd had a weird dream?
"Jay! Mark!" Simon called to his sons. "Your grandfather and I are going to the shop."
"Alright," said Jay, finishing his morning coffee. "We'll meet you there."
As Mark watched his new father and grandfather leave, he couldn't help but find the whole experience strange and familiar at the same time. Now that Jay's awareness of the further-increased time flow had been dimmed, he'd been wondering how his new brother would act.
As he thought this, Mark took a doughnut from a nearby box, dunked it into his coffee and took a bite. He felt a rumbling in his stomach and took a look down to see and feel his stomach bulge out a little, almost imperceptibly. It looked as though consequences though their actions would have more pronounced and immediate effects.
As Mark thought this, he saw Jay grab a couple doughnuts, scarfing one down and plunking the other in his coffee. Looking closely, Mark saw Jay's already noticeable stomach stand out a bit more and his second chin become more pronounced.
"Alright," said Jay, apparently oblivious to the change that had taken place. "Let's go to work!"
"Hold on," said Mark. "While we're here, did you want to make any... adjustments?" he said, motioning in the direction of Simon's room. "You know, before we leave.
Jay thought for a second. He was eager to get to work, but there wasn't anything he really felt like changing. He was happy as he was and didn't feel like any change was necessary. However they may be something...
