Jeff was disappointed to see that his stats changed to something pretty basic, nothing more interesting than a
young farmer. It made sense, if he was really randomized then he wasn't guaranteed to be a knight or a
wizard, but it was still a bit of a letdown.
He found his body changing, though the changes were not huge. He became a bit taller, a bit more muscular,
and his skin tanned a bit darker. When it was all over, he felt like his body was about what he'd expect in
about five years if he worked out hard.
He found himself standing in the middle of a small farm early in the morning. There were pens surrounding him
with different animals, pigs, chickens, sheep and a few others. A crudely built barn was nearby, and he could
hear some horses and cows there. There was a field nearby, plowed for planting, but it was hard to see if it
was planted or waiting. There was a fairly dense forest surrounding the cleared area for the farm, which made
it seem like the place was pretty self sustaining.
He didn't see any other people around, which surprised him a little. He was a young man, but the farm seemed
like a bit too much work for one person. He knew he wasn't married and had no children.
His thoughts were interrupted by a trio that walked up to the pasture fence. "Ahoy! Farmer!" shouted the
tallest one, a man dressed in light leather armor, an oversized sword on his back. There were two others, a
young female elf with a prominent bow, and a dwarf with an axe in his hand.
"How can I help you?" Jeff shouted back as he walked closer.
The taller man smiled, "We have had rumors of a dangerous mage in these parts, what do you know?"
Jeff felt himself smile. There was some knowledge that hadn't yet percolated into his brain, but his body
knew something. "I can give you some information, but not out in the open. Come over to the house and let me
fill you in!"
The three didn't pause or talk to each other, but simply climbed over the fence and started toward the house.
It took only a few second for them to stop. The dwarf was the first to seem to realize something was wrong.
"What the hell?" he asked as a cramp seemed to cause him to drop his axe. The other two didn't get last
words.
The elf ripped out of her clothes first, her body swelling as a massive udder fell between her legs. In just
seconds, there was a cow where she had been standing. Even as that happened, the dwarf had tried to turn and
run, but only made a single step before he bleated out in terror, now a young goat. The tall human seemed
unable to move from the shock of his traveling companions, but it was only a pair of heartbeats later when his
body distorted. His leather armor strained the longest, but finally burst out with a hide that matched his
female companion. In fact, he even developed an udder as he joined her as a bovine.
The trio stood still and in shock as the magic of the farm continued to work on them. Jeff walked across the
field, unaffected by his own spell and unafraid of the animals. "I am the mage that you seek," he said
finally to the cow that stood among the ruins of the leather armor. "I have chosen to live quietly away from
people. But you keep coming, one after the other." He sighed, "Sorry that you couldn't stay male, but I
already have a bull. You'll meet him in a few minutes." He motioned to all the other animals, "Don't worry,
I usually don't sell off the transformed. I just use them for breeding stock."
He patted her on the head, "And don't worry, you'll all forget what you once were. At least, mostly. By the
time you drop your third or fourth calf, you'll actually come to enjoy this life."
