"Well, make a wish and let's see what it can do." Amanda suggested.
"I could turn you into an inanimate object," I offered.
Amanda grimiced at that idea. "What do you mean?" she said with a hint curiosity and concern.
"Well, basically turn you into a nonliving being. Perhaps a book," I said picking up a small book on the corner of the desk.
"I don't know, Joe. I don't want to be a book."
"Oh, it's only for a short time, I promise. If the ring can't do it, nothing will happen. If it can, it can easily undo it too. Besides, you can tell me if you experience anything as an inanimate form. I've always been curious about that."
She gave him an uncomfortable look. "I'm not exactly interested in being dead." She knew she couldn't get away from him. The ring was interesting to her, but she wasn't quite sure what he would do with her.
"I promise I will undo it."
"Could we test it, first? I really don't like the idea of being zapped into a book without knowing it can be done. Please, test it."
