The two left the house and entered the car, ready to spend the day at the beach. 25-year-old Kellie stepped into the driver seat while 10-year-old Katie jumped into the passenger side, bouncing in anticipation about going to the beach to have some fun. The moment they got out of the driveway, the drove through town, and were on the way to the freeway. But then, Kellie parked her car in front of the liquor store and told her daughter, “I’m going to grab some beer before we leave. Stay here until I come back. Got it squirt?” Katie looked to her mother with gleaming eyes and said, “Sure thing mom. I’ll be a good girl.” Kellie looked at her oddly and said, “Mom? I could’ve sworn I’m a little young to be one.” She then opened the door and got out of her car, swiping her hair off her shoulders, she closed the door and sauntered into the store to get some beer.
Meanwhile Katie heard her mom and was a little confused. “Strange…” she said, “Mom said that she’s a little young to be one.” But that’s not all she noticed about her mother. She also noticed that her mom was behaving very weird. Once Kellie was a 43-year-old mother that’s down to earth and was strict to her own daughter. Now being over half her age younger, she was more of a free spirit with the weight of the world slowly lifting off her shoulders. In fact, she was acting less like a mother, and more like an older sister.
She looked down to the ring on her finger and started to wonder. If the ring was physically regressing her mother, is it mentally regressing her as well? She never that that through as Kellies behavior was getting too noticeable. And sure, she always wished that she wanted a big sister to look up to, but not her own mother turning into one. This would lead to her having fewer responsibilities then when she was her old age. And this could lead to some serious consequences for the both of them. But then looking at her ring, she then asked herself one more question. “Is the mental change happening to me too?”
Just as she asked that question, she heard the door to the driver seat opening and turned to see who it is. Turns out, it was her mother and she looked a little upset. “Uh, mom? Is everything all right?” Kellie looked at her with a distasteful look. “That stupid clerk wouldn’t let me get a six pack of beer, let alone a few bottles.” “But why?” Katie continued. Kellie then took her ID out and said, “Because he said that my ID was fake. I mean look at it; it said that I’m 43 when I’m actually 25. And look at this picture! It makes me look old and really fat.” Katie was surprised by her reaction and couldn’t believe that her mother is thinking her ID was really a fake when it was her real ID. “Well, I guess it was all a big misunderstanding.” She said feeling a little worried. Kellie sighed to herself and said, “Yeah I guess your right. Maybe I got mom’s ID by mistake. Oh well, might as well head to the beach and see if I can go to the bar to get one instead. Let’s roll sister.”
Soon enough, they left the liquor store and entered the highway that would take them to the beach. As they were riding, Katie remembered her mother calling her a sister rather then her daughter. Her assumptions were then right as Kellie was mentally regressing as well. Laying back on her seat, she sighed and soon realized that it was going to be a really interesting day.
