“Isn’t her puppies just lovely!? Three brown ones and four black ones” says Ashley. “Yeah, they’re lovely...” sighs Lisa and turn her head the other way. Ashley watches Joanne’s sleeping litter, longing for one of her own. Nancy listens to the two bitches, pretending to be asleep. She woke up when the two of them started talking. She starts to think about her puppies in her stomach and the dreams she’ve had. Every night, the same thing. First she’s a human, then she becomes a dog. How long have I been here? She thinks to herself. She tries to think back to the events of the last few months. How did I get here? She thinks. She knows that she used to know it, but it’s getting hard to remember and she can’t figure out if these memories are just dreams or if they’re real.
Something moving her stomach makes her roll over on her side. It’s hard for her to move with her swollen stomach. “Nancy, you’re awake” Nancy lifts her head up slightly and looks at the two rottweiler bitches. “So how does it feel to become a mother” Ashely asks. “Confusing. It’s very confusing” Nancy asks letting her head rest on the pelt that the zoo lady putted there for her to lie on. “Confusing?” Ashely asks questioningly while tilting her head slightly. This wasn’t an answer she’d expected to get. “Yes... I... I can’t remember what I am. I remember how I got here at the kennel, but are they real memories or just dreams? Tell me, are they real?” Nancy asks.
“You shouldn’t worry so much, Nancy. All you need to worry about are your puppies. Even if the memories are true, what would change? Your main concern right now is your litter”
