In his cell, Li Sang sat quietly. He knew that by now his "fallback" plan had to be be in motion. He was the ONLY master, the others were merely lieutenants, and they had been very skilled in infiltration, espionage, and deception. A few of them were even former special forces soldiers from their respective countries and had joined him to further their own wealth. And they did rather well, particularly after tricking Ronald Chakat into betraying his brother. Whether or not Maurice Chakat's brother was dead was unknown, as he couldn't contact his lieutenants, but if Ronald Chakat lived or died was really unimportant. The real key was breaking the vaccine. His scientists had found no way to change the virus in anyway that could overcome the vaccine. They had experimented with various alterations to the virus, but they found nothing that would make it work effectively, mostly because of the great surprise that the alterations required to transform someone with the Type O Blood Type with Partial D Antigens, the transformative strain of the Foxkat Vaccine that transformed Jess and created the first Foxkats and allowed hir father to become a Siamese Cat based Chakat, didn't work on anyone else.
The only way around it, his scientists had found would be to force an alteration to the vaccine itself. The way the vaccine was at present depended on giving people the "appearance" of having the blood type that the Chakat Virus couldn't overcome, and had been using an aerosol version of it to spread the vaccine around the globe. His scientists had no way of countering it, and they had told him so. The only way around it was to personalize the virus one at a time to overcome personalized genetic structure of a vaccinated human as his Miami Lab had started doing, or was to get the Kats to alter the vaccine. If it stayed the way it was, if the did anything to alter the vaccine and introduced it into the air, they would essentially eliminate the vaccine and return the human population to the state it was in prior to the Hong Kong Outbreak. To do this, all that had been needed was a bluff that would make them think the virus had changed and could now overpower the vaccine, and that was where leaving a bit of a paper trail for Ronnie to find was key. After all, Ronald Chakat had already served his purpose and Li Sang had no reason to kill him.
But the bluff on Ronald Chakat, given his rather spiritual mindset and jealousy of his brother combining to create the perfect storm. Ronald Chakat was jealous of his brother's success and wanted to either get even or at least make his brother more spiritual, which had enabled Li Sang to make the first plot that lead to the Fee City outbreak. But that spiritualism would eat Ronald Chakat for betraying his own brother and he would eventually come back to help his brother and thus, he would look for and find false notes left for him to find and then pass it on to his brother to satisfy his own need for forgiveness. Then the Kats would respond, alter the way the aerosol vaccine worked and unleash it, not knowing they'd destroy the vaccine and reset the entire situation.
He didn't know about the new version of the vaccine that Jess and Nikole were now developing. The new vaccine was more complex and relied more on the traditional means of vaccine production. Instead of creating the appearance of something the Virus couldn't effect, they would introduce a dead version of the virus which would lead to the body producing anti-bodies that would fight the virus, and this had proven to make them far superior and even altered versions of viruses failed to defeat such a vaccine. When it was ready, the "Dead" Vaccine would end any chance Li Sang had of spreading the virus to make chaos, and Li Sang didn't know it. All Li Sang could do was wait, and hope his lieutenants carried out his contingency plan as quickly as possible.
Suddenly the door opened and a lone Foxkat entered the room. He recognized hir from the news.
"Well hello, Jessica," Li Sang smiled in a confident way, "They come to kill you yet? Or perhaps you've come to kill me?"
Jess only responded with a low growl.
"What have you done with the Virus?" Jess demanded.
"Me?" Li Sang retorted, "Nothing. Nothing at all."
It was true, he had done nothing with the virus, and even his scientists hadn't been able to do anything with the virus, but he put such a tone into his voice that Jess could only conclude that he was taunting hir.
"Don't lie to me," Jess answered, "we've received information that you're intending to launch outbreaks in Russia, India, and the Vatican..."
Li Sang smiled, they had gotten his bluff and would soon be making the mistake he needed. He decided to play his cards correctly.
"I am not lying," Li Sang answered, "besides you should know by now that I'm not that strong with science. I'm good with plots and deception, but not science. I had other people do that."
"Krita Roan, Diego Treas, Marta Renolds, Luke Bessa, and Almeria Kartov?" Jess asked.
"They are lieutenants of mine, but they aren't scientists either," Li Sang answered, "So I suppose you've deduced where "I" am striking next?"
"What did your scientists do the virus?" Jess questioned.
"Something very good," Li Sang only smirked back, "Other than that, I'm afraid I can't help you as I've been out of touch with my network."
Jess growled and left. Li Sang only smirked.
