Todd put in some adjustments on his remote, and activated it. Beside him, Gretta shuddered visibly.
"There we go!" Todd grinned with satisfaction. "Now you should be able to talk!"
Gretta tried to speak again, growling excitedly, but to her disappointment she couldn't say more than rar. Todd looked over at her in confusion, wondering why it didn't work, and to his shock he could see a small puddle of green goo forming under the croc's belly and tail. She must have felt the strange liquid under her, because she looked in alarm, and raised her tail. Incredibly, her tail raised and pulled strands up from the floor, as if it had melted right to the concrete. Todd gasped, Gretta went wide eyed in horror, and looked towards her front to see an increasing pool to green goo forming around her. Not just that, but she was getting softer too. She looked to Todd in panic and tried to stand, but she was quickly turning into a puddle of goo! She was melting!
Frantically, Todd threw himself off the floor as Gretta got 'runny' and her whole rear began to lose shape. Todd ran for the janitor's bucket, the only thing he could think of to get, and turned back to find Gretta struggling in a puddle of her own self, her whole tail and rear now an indistinguishable messy goop of green, her back legs gone, and her goop starting to trail down the floor and towards the drain in the middle of the room. She gurgled a horrible panicked cry as she melted up to her midsection, and Todd quickly ran over and began scooping up what he could of her liquefying form before she literally seeped down the drain. He tried to pick up the front half of her body as she reached for him and hefted her up with difficulty out of her own messy form, and as her front legs went over her shoulders she dripped goopily down his front and legs, nearly slipping away from how slimy she was. The only good thing about turning to goo was that she was getting a lot lighter as her front too suffered the same softening as her back. Her eye looked at him in pleading horror as he long snout became too weak to support itself and began to droop down, and quickly Todd held her over the quarter full bucket as she simply became too slippery to hold and splashed down his front and into the bucket.
Now Gretta's limbs were all gone and what was left of her was either going down the drain, bubbling, or melting away in the bucket. As she went down to her neck her snout folded down into bucket's mass of green gunk and pooled into the rest of her totally melted form. Her one eye stared up at him in horrified stupor as Todd leaned over the bucket.
"I'm so sorry, Gretta! I'm so sorry! I don't know why this happened! It shouldn't have! I... I..."
He watched, covered in her goop, as finally her eye went under too, melting into the mass of spilling green gunk in the bucket. And the crocodile was totally gone, a mass of putty-like green goop, though softer. With sadness overtaking him, Todd paced the room and wondered what to do. He wiped off the gunk from his body, it was melting away anyway, and stared down at the bucket. He scanned the goo with the remote and his heart sank as it scanned 'Gretta' again. It read 58 year old female Nile Crocodile. Error. And refused to do anything to her.
Todd sat down next to the bucket, sighed into his hand, and let embarrassment burn into his cheeks. Poor, poor Gretta. He wondered if she was even alive.
And then, the liquid bubbled. He stared over at the green goop in the janitor's bucket and a little glimmer of hope took his heart. He watched the goop bubble again, and then a single liquidly claw tip formed on top of the bucket. Then collapsed.
He gasped in realization and leaned over the bucket. "Hey! Are you still in there?!"
The top of the liquid bubbled frantically in response and Todd laughed triumphantly. "Holy crap, Gretta! You're still alive! Try doing that again, I saw your claw come out."
Again, a single bubble popped up from the soup, and this was followed by the formation of a single claw. Todd's eyes widened in amazement as the claw seemed to hold steady. "There you go, Gretta. There you go. Can you do more? Try forming your hand!"
Little by little, this progressed. She would form a claw, then a finger, and then lose control. Todd would encourage her, and soon she had a whole hand formed, though it was much smaller than normal. "I bet you've lost a lot of mass." Todd surmised. "All right. How about a head. Can you make your head?"
Slowly getting the hang of it, the liquid crocodile formed first the edge of her snout, then opened that up into the inside of her jaw, then brought out her teeth, and got half of her mouth out before she collapsed back down into a puddle. She tried again with the same results, got frustrated, and tried to bring out more of her arm. She got past her wrist and then collapsed. Tried her tail, and that too reached a certain point before she gave out. The exertion was just too much.
"Hmmm." Todd poked his finger into the goop and felt how very liquidy it was. "I wonder if we can thicken you up to make this easier."
The crocodile goop said nothing. Simply bubbled.
