Nate and Matt were in Matt's basement playing video games. They were really getting into it, furiously pressing buttons and moving around on the old couch. Nate didn't realize the ring Kathryn gave him slipped out of his pocket and onto the couch cushion between the two of them. They continued to play the game, completely unaware until Nate's character finally died and the game was over.
"Want to play again?" asked Matt.
"Sure, just let me hit the bathroom first." Nate got up and walked down the hall to the bathroom.
Matt leaned back on the couch and relaxed, setting the controller down beside him. He heard the bathroom door close. Out of the corner of his eye, he could see the ring and picked it up. He turned it over in his hands, noticing the large gem, carved to look like a beetle.
"What a weird ring." He was surprised when it started to glow. He looked over it, curious and found the writing on the underside. Slowly, he started to read the incantation. "In...canis..."
Meanwhile, in the bathroom, Nate turned on the faucet and was washing his hands. He grabbed the hand towel off the rod on the wall and was drying his hands. He looked up into the mirror. He looked closer, was his hair looking a little white or was it his imagination? In a panic, he searched his pockets only to find the ring was gone.
"Cor...corp...corpore..." continued Matt, sounding out the Latin.
Nate watched as the white fuzz grew in over his hands and arms as his nails darkened and grew into claws. He checked out his reflection. He watched as his nose darkened and became more canine. His ears grew out and flopped over as the same white fur grew in. His heart raced as part of him panicked and part of him was really excited.
"Trans...transmuto."
The transformation continued as the white and black fur grew in, thicker and thicker covering him. His hands and feet reformed into canine paws as his face pushed out into a snout. Nate looked over himself. He was in a real jam now.
"Great, what do I do now?" he asked to himself, surprised to find he could still talk.
There was a knock at the door. "Nate, you about done in there?"
Nate looked around, no means of escape. "Yeah, why?"
"I was just wondering if this ring I found on the couch was yours."
"Yeah, it is."
"Cool, where'd you get it?"
"From a friend."
"Sweet."
Nate looked around again, trying to decide what to do.
