"Uh, Derrick not sure . . . people in one village think Derrick monster once, mama and papa give them big talking to! Derrick Save them from giant walking fish, so Derrick hero there now."
"What about your parents? They don't know what are you are?" Jessica asked as Gracia saw the red flags.
"Papa say Papa never see anything like Derrick before when traveling through jungle. Mama say Mama never see anything like Derrick either. Derrick very special Papa says."
"Ah!" Jessica pointed, "So you're ado-OW!" Gracia kicked her tactless sister in the shin.
"Adorable." Gracia covered.
"What adorable?"
"It means cute."
"Oh Derrick very cute! that why Derrick know Derrick never get hurt on adventures with mama and papa! Cute kids never get hurt!"
"How do you figure that?" Gracia asked.
"Because it is! Everyone know that!" Derrick said calmly, and Julie nodded.
The twins looked at each other. Newer Magical Girls of course ran on a different logic from a fantasy-adventure, the constant danger of losing your life or that of your teammate was always there. When crossovers happened, it was hard to guess what rules still applied.
The twins figured Derrick and Julie knew how to take care of themselves, and wouldn't talk of their parents so lovingly if they didn't look after them. Besides, Jessica and Gracia put themselves in danger on a regular basis to protect the innocent from monsters and were kids themselves, what right did they have to complain?
"So what does your family do again?" Gracia asked politely steering the subject away from Derrick parentage.
Julie gushed, "We get to see so many pretty and cool places! And make new friends wherever we go! We find treasure and beat ugly monsters! Ka-pow!"
"Well, sounds like you guys have lots of fun with your family." Jessica said. Gracia knew that would count as Jesscia's idea of 'fun.'
Gracia sighed, "Well, nice to meet you, we were going for breakfast."
"I'd like breakfast too." Julie said.
"Derrick already ate."
"You eat like a horse anyway."
"No, Derrick eat more than horse."
"But what about your parents?" Gracia asked. "Won't they want to know where you are?"
"They won't mind if we've made some new friends!" Julie said.
