This couldn't be happening. It was a dream, a nightmare, a delusion. Maybe it was those Cheetos she ate last night before going to bed, and she was still asleep, waiting to wake up. That had to be it. This whole situation was too insane not to be a dream. So, if it was a dream, she should at least be where she'd rather be, right? Home, safe and sound, away from all the silliness. She heard a loud, elongated moo ring out over the office floor, and then a call for a milk bucket. Yeah, this was just too insane to deal with.
Putting the rest of her lunch back into her bag, she got up from the break room table and hopped on over to her boss's office - stopping herself midway to glance down at elongated kangaroo feet which had destroyed her shoes.
"Just a dream, just a dream... Just a dream," she whispered to herself, and tried to simply walk. She stumbled, finding the attempt awkward. Feet were too damn big. Sighing, she resorted back to the hop, and made it to her boss's office door...
"Mister Stevenson?" She called out, peering in.
"Ah, Melissa! Just the lovely shiela I'd wanted t' see. C'mon in!"
She did so reluctantly, not liking what she was hearing. Why was Mister Stevenson speaking with such an exaggerated Australian - no. Oh, no no no. He hopped into view - he too was a kangaroo. Finished with his changing, by the looks of it. Pants abandoned, business blazer shirt and tie still intact.
"Oh, God, not you too..." She whispered, frowning. She wished she could wake up from this horrible nightmare.
"Why the long face? Or rather not so long face? Y'oughtta be good an' done by now! What's the holdup?"
"Mister Stevenson, I..." She started, shaking her head.
"Now, maybe it ain't my place t' say, but I understand you an' the joeys been havin' a rough go of it since - ya know. Anyway, the wife an' I were just now talkin', havin' a bit of a chat as it were, an' we were both in agreement that we'd like you an' yer joeys ta come on holiday with us."
"Holiday?" Melissa asked, confused. She tilted her head to the side, as a sudden buildup of pressure in her nose pushed her face out a bit.
"There ya go! Lookin' a sight better already! Anyway, yeah, holiday! New resort what's openin' up in the Outback just fer us kangaroo types. You heard of it?"
"Can't say I-" Melissa slapped her hands over her mouth in shock, not finishing her declaration. She too somehow had begun slipping into an Australian accent.
"Well, they call it the Red Roo Resort. Y'oughtta check it out online then get back t' me on that. I think it's really gonna do yer family wondahs."
"I'll... give 'er a look see," Melissa said, turning towards the door on cautiously hopping back out to do a bit of research.
