The tub becomes a pool

added 9 years ago S

As May sat in the warm bath shampooing her hair with her tear-free brand, the ghost decided to try out changing the girl again. At first, May noticed nothing strange happening with her eyes closed and her attention focused on her hair. She did feel the tub start to move beneath her as if her backside were sliding against it. Then, the water level rose up her chest. When her shoulders went underwater, she wiped her eyes and peeked out through the suds to see something impossible.

It appeared that the tub was growing larger around her. Already it seemed twice as large as it had been at the start of her bath, and it was still growing.

The water level reached her nose, and she quickly dunked her head under to rinse out the suds from her hair. She stood up, and found that the water was now waist high to her. Looking around the room at the sink that was above her head and the toilet that was now big enough to be a tub itself, May realized what was really happening.

"I'm shrinking," she said half in wonder and half in worry. The water level of her giant bath was still creeping up her tummy. "Why are you doing this?" she asked the ghost.

"I thought it might be fun," his voice replied.

May looked around at the tub as the water reached her chest. She felt panic building in herself. "But..."

"Don't worry," said the ghost. "I won't drown you. I just thought you might like to play in a pool instead of a tub."

It was true that the tub now felt more like a swimming pool. Still, she worried as the water reached her shoulders. She readied herself to start swimming for her life, but just then, the world stopped growing around her. After a sigh of relief and a smug "See?" from the ghost, she started to wade around the tub, exploring a weirdly familiar new world.

Bubbles like clear basketballs floated by her as she made her way to the deep end by the faucet, which jutted out above her like an industrial drainpipe. She had to stand on her tiptoes by the drain to keep her head above water there. Looking up, she could see the ceilng several stories above her. She marveled at the scale of it all. There was just so much space now.

"This is neat," she declared.

"Glad you like it," he said, sounding genuinely pleased.

She took a short swim back to the shalow end and found her yellow rubber ducky there now almost big enough to ride or at least to use as a floater. She dragged it into the water witha splash that sent up too-big droplets into the air, and proceded to float around with it in the soothingly warm waters.

"This is so nice," May said, her eyes closed in rapture. "I could just float here forever."

"Well..." said the ghost, but he was cut off before he could continue by a sudden knock at the giant bathroom door.
