CYOTF (Animal)

Do it yourself anthros

added 10 years ago A BM S

In the darkness of a well worn apartment a young man sits in a main room converted to a science lab. Around him are various bubbling chemicals, vials, and equipment. A journal sits next to him as he carefully mixes chemicals in beakers with precise measurements. At last, he picks up a purple concoction and swirls it gently in his hand, watching the liquid bubble gently.

He turns to the table behind him, adjusting his glasses, and stares at a line up of small insects in sealed containers. Abundant and easy to obtain, perfect for hundreds of failed experiments he had run before. But each failure had gotten him closer to his goal, each failure he had learned from and improved upon his methods.

He pours the purple solution into a spray device and turns towards the table. What will it be tonight? A house fly? Mosquito? A worm? Garden slug? Spider? Centipede?

He selects the jar with a single female mosquito clinging to the side of the glass and inserts his sprayer into a small hole on top. With a quick spritz, he soaks the mosquito in the purple solution, sets the jar down in front of his work space, and observes.

The insect inside seems to tremble for a moment, and then slides down the glass to the bottom, flailing as if it has lost its balance. Its tiny features are barely visible to the naked eye, but its clear something is happening. He watches in anticipation as stage 1 begins quickly. The mosquito begins to grow larger, increasing in size visibly.

Soon, the bug has grown so big it fills the bottom of the glass container's diameter. It is twitching, spindly legs trembling, abdomen curling and swelling with rapid breaths. And then the shifting begins as it continues to grow. It's back legs seem to extend, its body grows longer. With a shock, the insect grows a neck, its head droops down as it struggles to stand. Its body is more oblong, its wings grow larger and thicker. The back legs are long and defined, the other two sets are growing hands. It looks around in terror, filling half the bottle and still changing, still growing. It begins to take a more familiar shape, its body is approximating a human torso, while its abdomen grows long and flexible behind it, like an insect tail.

The mosquito's process picks up speed, rapidly turning it from a mere bug to a humanoid version of itself. Soon, scrunched into the bottle in a near fetal position, it is a tiny but perfect anthropomorphic creature. Clearly feminine, with an hourglass body and two long dainty insect legs, while it has four long and shapely arms. It hangs its long blood sipping proboscis between its thighs, breathing evenly, and still it grows, little by little, until the mosquito is crunched down in the bottle. It presses against the glass in futility, feeling the decreasing space around it.

He has gotten further than he ever has before. His eyes are wide in amazement as the mosquito woman grows in the reflective glass. He gently unscrews the lid with a trembling hand, and immediately the insect's head raises from the confines, followed by the top of her shoulders. He gently wraps his fingers around her hard exoskeletal flesh and gently helps free her from the bottle.

He lays her down on the table and watches as she grows bigger still. To his further amazement, the insect reaches forward shakily towards his hand with her own, and delicately closes her sharp fingers over just one of his. Her head falls back, her compound eyes lifeless and shimmering, and he sees her breath coming from her abdomen in quick succession. She seems to go limp for a moment before squirming on her back as she grows, and grows, and grows. Soon enough the once miniscule creature is as tall as a barbie doll, though infinitely more inhuman.

It seems to slow. She pants through her abdomen. She lies outstretched on the table, completed into a strange little bug woman. He watches her intently, and she kicks up her wings for a second, adjusting them behind her back and folding them in behind her like a long cape all the way to her strangely shaped feet, more like claws.

She raises her head in his direction, he sees her feelers twitching on either side of her face. At the very tip of her long inhuman snout, it seems to open and close, as if she's moving her mouth. She watches him the same way he is watching her, and again, she holds out two of her four new arms to him. He lowers his giant hand gently, afraid of crushing her like the bug she is, and she pulls his finger close to her body, holding it, hugging it against the fuzzy golden plating of her torso.

The gesture is unmistakably affectionate. Eerily human.

“Do... do you understand me?” He whispers to her gently. “Can you nod?” He demonstrates by wagging his head up and down.

She looks at him quizzically and responds instantly. She nods back.

“My God.” He gasps. “It worked. It all worked!”

The mosquito woman pushes his finger away and sits up, bending herself and bracing herself with her lower arms. Her top arms stretch out and she flexes, still staring at her creator. It's impossible to read her face, as it has no emotion, but she is breathing calmly now and seems relaxed.

“Well, now, my little friend.” He says, smiling. “What should we do with you?”
