Amanda felt a slight tingle of some force acting on her, but it wasn't anything like what the ring did.
Rebekka asked, "Do you know where the brass ring is?"
"What brass ring?" Amanda replied. "I don't have a brass ring."
Rebekka wasn't sure what was happening. Despite the residual magic on her, the girl seemed pretty oblivious to the ring. Rebekka wasn't exactly sure what was happening, but she was not getting any head way asking Amanda.
"Well, if you see this ring," Rebekka asked as she gave her a photo, "please call this number. There is a $250,000 reward for it."
Amanda opened her eyes wide. "Wow!" She studied the picture careful. "I'll call you if I see it," she promised.
Rebekka left the library elegantly, but she was not satisifed with the results of her visit. She was sure this Amanda girl knew about the ring, but she did not admit anything after casting the truth spell on her. Unless she was protected by the ring, Amanda may have been zapped by the current ring holder without Amanda knowing about it. Rebekka wasn't completely convienced, but she knew there was little to gain right now. She'd keep an eye on 'Amanda' to make sure.
Amanda was relieved when she saw the tall woman leave through the revolving door. She was sure Rebekka knew she was lying. Amanda also felt a bit more supercharged after Joe's wish to make her invulnerable to Rebekka's magic. Being made invisible to Rebekka had taken a bit of energy out of her for some reason. She hoped Joe would come by the help desk soon. She didn't have a wish left, either.
I watched Rebekka leave the library and made sure she disappeared into the people walking up and down the street. I had an idea to follow her as I wanted to keep a keep tabs on her. If she was still a powerful sorceress, I didn't want Amanda to become a pawn between Rebekka and I. There were a number of questions in my mind.
I looked down to see Amanda acting light-hearted and joyful. Whatever my last wish did, she seemed free of some burden or other weight. I lurked above her, watching her in amazement. I finally dashed back into the stacks and made myself visible to the world again. The shift was pleasant as I regained the ability to touch things again.
With being whole again, I slowly made my way to the help desk. I wanted to make sure Rebekka was definiately gone and explored each floor. After sweeping the first floor I came up to the help desk. Amanda perked up when she saw me. Of course, she was working, so I didn't want to distract her much.
"Hi, Amanda. You doing well?" I said as innocently as possible.
"Very well. I feel free, now. Jesus is the Lord, you know," she professed.
"He is indeed. Why the praise?" I asked.
"For some reason, I know Rebekka is Evil. Yet, I felt at complete peace standing before her. I knew I was protected, not only by the ring, but God himself. Evil will be defeated in the end. Anyway, I don't fear her," she confessed.
"Wow, that's incredible. I hope I have that peace the next time we come across her. I wanted to see how you are doing."
"Quite well. How is your work upstairs?" she asked.
"It's been interesting. I found a manual about this ring. I've been reading it," I replied.
"What has it said?" she said with eagerness.
"How about I tell you at lunch? Looks like you're about to get busy," I noted with the people standing behind me.
She sighed. "You're right. See you here at 11:30?"
"Yes, you will. See you soon, hon," I quipped. I left the desk. Did I just call her 'hon'?
Amanda turned to the work at hand and helped the horde of people who had come up. Rebekka never showed up again that morning.
