After I came home that night, I had a bit of a close call. When my mother asked me what took me so long, I couldn't help but answer "I'm sorry, but I got offered a job at this store of a real wizard and I kinda forgot about the time." My eyes went wide immediately after I said that. Curse that bloody pill, I thought to myself. I kind of wanted to keep this information to myself! At least for now...
"That's nice honey. Meanwhile I discovered a gnome under my bed and I just saw a dragon fly past," my mom then said, luckily thinking I was just fooling around. "Now, sit down, it's dinner time!". She then went off to the kitchen to get the food, muttering something about 'kids these days', and I just sighed of relief.
"I did really get a job though!" I said to my mom when she returned. I felt a little bit of an ache, for my body wanted to tell me what the job was again, but I managed to shrug it off.
"So that wasn't a joke? Wow, that's fantastic sweetheart," she said. "what kind of job is it?"
"Oh, I'm just going to be a check-out girl for this magician's shop," I said confidently. It wasn't a lie! magician is also another word for wizard, I imagined.
"Well, I'll be. We have a magic shop in town? Must be a new place. I hope you'll have fun, sweety. How often are you going to work there?" she asked.
"Well, I will go there tomorrow at about 9 AM, and then we'll talk about the details of how long I will be working there and all that, so I don't know yet."
"But you'll be home again by 6 PM? I don't want to have dinner on my own."
"Yeah mom, it's only until 5 PM," I answered. My mom and dad had had a divorce a few years ago. At first it was very hard one me, but I grew up to learn to live with it. I usually stay at my mom's house, but I also occasionally come to my dad's house. I don't come there often though, because quite frankly, I don't really like the woman he ended up marrying last year.
Anyway, that night, I spent some time online, looking around a little bit for real-life accounts of magic, transformations and other such things. There seemed to be quite a lot of them, but most of those were all either hoaxes or people just trying to grab attention. "Perhaps this guy really is a one of a kind," I thought to myself, before then just going to bed.
"Why, good morning, miss Greane!" came Gregory's eager greeting when I knocked on the door the next morning. "We should get you a key, hahaha, but please, do come in!"
The dusty store hadn't changed much from how it was yesterday. All of the items were still in the same place. The only thing different perhaps was that some of the shelves had been replenished again. That must have meant that there are quite a few customers!
"I hope the truth pill didn't give you too much trouble?" Gregory asked with a grin.
"I nearly told my mother about what I'm really up to here," I said with a bit of a glare.
"Ah yes, I can see where you'd want to keep that a secret from her, but never mind that," Gregory said. "Let's get you accustomed to this place! I suppose I'll just start out by giving you a mini tour!"
