Burned

added by A 9 years ago BM TG O

You stare deep into the reflection of Gorvind's eyes in the pool, and are taken aback by the fact that they appear to be glowing. You are not sure if it is just a trick of the light, or perhaps his eyes were always this way. You rummage through what memories of Gorvind's you can make sense of, but nothing gives you the intimation that he has ever been anything but a normal human...relatively. At least, he never had eyes that seemed to flash a strange reddish tinge.

As you stand at the edge of the water, you become even more aware of a sensation you have been trying to ignore since this morning. Your new body feels hot, almost feverish. However, you don't feel the normal chills or weakened trembling that might come with a regular fever. Rather, you feel just as strong as before, perhaps even more so. You wonder if this is due to the curse from yesterday, but you have no way of confirming that. If it is due to the curse, you hope that this is its full extent. Being stuck in the body of a bloodthirsty male giant is bad enough; you don't need any more changes to make you feel worse. You again debate leaving this life, but you only have nine chances left to find a life that you can enjoy, and you really do not want to waste this one. After all, maybe the curse is something you can live with, and you can think of plenty of worse lives you could end up in, especially after seeing what Gorvind has been capable of. Anyway, you can always leave this life if it becomes too bad, and knowing that you have nine more chances to get it right does stiffen your spine a bit.

While you are debating your options, the heat from within grows to an intense level. You almost expect to see steam coming off your body, or at least sweat. You lean closer to the pool to examine yourself. You do not see any evidence of the burning fire; your skin does not even appear flushed. However, while gazing at yourself, the thought that something does not seem right tickles at the edge of your mind. You cannot put a finger on what, but something seems different from yesterday. Your reflection ripples, but it takes you a minute to realize that nothing, not even wind, has disturbed the surface of the water. It is as if your own body is rippling, shifting, changing. Although you don't see enough of a change in your reflection to justify your suspicions, the combination of your memories and the memories of Gorvind's body give rise to a strange thought; one which you cannot seem to brush aside.

The red glow from your eyes is more overt now, and while you are not sure why, you have the idea that you know what is happening. As impossible as it seems, you are fairly certain that you are slowly changing into...
