Your head begins to throb, almost as though your skull were about to split. You close your eyes, wincing at the sudden migrane. You head begins to feel a bit heavier, your neck muscles straining for a bit, burning as though they had been through a workout. However, nearly as suddenly, the pain subsides. Eyes still shut, you raise your hand to rub your temples, wondering what might be wrong with you. Your large hand stretches across your forehead, putting some pressure on the areas which had been aching just moments before.
Which is when the tips of your fingers brush up against something unfamiliar. A hard protuberence extends from just above each temple; something which you are certain was not there moments before. Worried, you open your eyes to examine your reflection once more. Growing out from your skull are two shiny black horns. Almost like that of a ram, they extend outward and then curl back following the slope of your head. Stunned, you watch speechless as they form a neat C-shape around your ears, which also look slightly different. Even your face seems flatter and more bestial, your hair wilder and darker, and you realize your ears now taper slightly to a point. Your neck is definitely thicker, probably from extra muscle supporting the weight of your horns. You are not certain what you are becoming, but your memories of your old life bring to mind old illustrations, mainly religious ones. One more glance into the reflection of your fiery eyes, and you feel your suspicions confirmed. While you are not sure what you would be considered in this world, in the one you came from, there is no doubt what you would be called: demon.
Ignoring the achiness throughout your body, you reach up almost as though you were in a trance to touch your new horns, to confirm the reality of what you are seeing. However, as your hand passes before your eyes, you notice something else different. While your hand looked relatively the same, your nails which had been merely filed to a point before were now thick, sharp, black, and hard; truly claws. Before you have time to mull this over, a sudden pain in your legs and feet nearly causes you to fall over. Lowering yourself to the ground, you quickly tear off your boots and socks, just in time to see your feet turn black and reshape themselves, even as your leg joints crack and reform. The pain is too much and you roll onto your side, clawing at the ground in agony. Your legs tingle and itch, as though thousands of ants were biting away. It is so intense that you don't even pay attention to the pain in your backside until you hear the sudden rip of your pants seam bursting.
The discomfort in the lower half of your body begins to pass, and you push yourself off the ground a bit, panting heavily. Gathering your courage, you turn a bit and look back over your shoulder to see what has become of your legs. No longer human, they clearly end in large, cloven hooves, each leg covered in a shaggy pelt of dark fur. As if that were not strange enough, you catch sight of movement out of the corner of your eye. Craning backward a bit further, you see extending out of your pants a thin, rope-like tail, longer than that of a bull and appearing almost prehensile; but like that of a bovine, ending in a tuft of hair, which is flicking back and forth in discomfort.
Too shocked by the sudden changes to begin to consider their implications, you shakily try to get to your feet...or rather, hooves...and toddle over to get a look at yourself in the pool. Despite the lack of toes, you find you can balance surprisingly well, although your new tail seems to have a mind of its own. With a bit of concentration, you curl it around in front of your body, and gingerly touch it with your hand. Even odder than touching your own tail is the sensation of feeling the touch of your hand through your tail. Your pants are ripped in several places due to the thickness of your new legs, and are also split along the seat where your tail burst through. While your shirt is a bit dirty from rolling on the ground, your torso is still fur-free and relatively human, although size-wise you do feel even larger and more muscular than before.
No sooner does this thought cross your mind than you feel a searing pain between your shoulder blades. You double over and nearly fall face-forward into the water. Wrapping your arms about yourself as though to hold yourself together, your mouth hangs open in a silent scream. You are so caught up in your distress that you do not even register the sound of ripping at first, but once you do, you realize you are not certain whether it is the sound of ripping cloth or skin and muscle. Your eyes clenched shut, you feel your body teeter a bit on its hooves and resettle as you regain your balance. A strange weight hangs from your back, and another unfamiliar sensation emanates from the same region.
You are tempted to keep your eyes closed and pray this is all a bad dream, but you know you will have to face it eventually. Slowly, you open your eyes and focus on your altered image in the pond. For a second, you almost think something is behind you. However, you realize that the strange object reflected back at you is actually part of you: your wings. Towering over your shoulders and extending down nearly past your knees are two dark, leathery, enormous wings.
You do not know how long you stand there, staring at yourself, but eventually you know you must do something. But what? For once, you are at a complete loss, although one of the options you are considering is to...
