I stood there nervously in front of Keru. The wedding had been performed by the local mayor and my blowing my top at my parents for engaging me to a Kitsune made for quite the scene. The two of us had now returned to what was my apartment and were trying to figure out what to do. A lot of this included figuring out how and why we were set up to wed. I opened my mouth briefly but she cut me off.
"I will have you know that you are not the first choice of a male for me, either," Keru spoke in an irritated voice, "My parents told me I had been engaged to a nine-tail."
"I'm not a Kitsune," I argued back.
"That is as plain as the nose on my muzzle," Keru replied, "so don't make it seem as though I am the one who made you marry."
"Sorry... I... I just didn't think my folks would say they'd arranged for me to marry someone," I apologized.
Keru didn't say anything and looked around the living room that served as the entrance to my apartment.
"So... this is where you live?" Keru asked.
"Yeah... it's not much... but it's home and it's relatively quiet," I gave a shrug, "I have two bedrooms, one bathroom, a kitchen/dining room, and small pantry."
"It is different from my parent's palace..." Keru commented, sniffing at an old can of Coca-Cola sitting on an end table.
"I'm not some Japanese noble," I commented.
"I'm not a noble," Keru answered, "not even among Kitsune. But because we can wield magic and wield great power... among our own people in our own realm... we are able to lord over most other beings thanks to that power."
I nervously gulped.
"The difference is interesting," Keru then finished, "they've had a lot of rules that I've been made to follow..."
"There are rules here too, different, maybe, but there are still rules," I warned her.
"Different I can handle," Keru actually gave a smile, and snapped her fingers as her wedding dress changed into a pair of slacks a tee-shirt with an opening for her two tails.
I blinked in surprise and then sat down on the couch.
"So...I suppose you'd prefer if I give you space?" I asked after a moment.
"I'd prefer to keep my freedom," Keru said sternly with narrowed eyes and then opened her eyes fully, "but I suppose it wouldn't hurt to get to know you better... and I assure you that I will not pull any tricks on you..."
"Heh... thanks," I commented, remembering that Kitsune were noted for their ability pull tricks and similar things on people.
Keru made no vocal comment to that and proceeded to look around the room. I noticed it when she gave rather heavy sigh.
"I suppose the two of us might be able to figure out why our parents set us up to be wed," Keru than finished.
You nodded, "What did you have in mind?"
"I was thinking something along the lines of a date..." Keru answered, "what you humans call dinner and a movie... and we can try to piece together a guess on why we were forced to marry... get to know each other and plan what we are to do."
"Okay," I commented.
"And YOU'RE buying," Keru spoke firmly.
"Nuts..."
