“Man, what a day.” Clemens groaned as he entered his and Jenny’s shared apartment.
“A lot of work then?” Jenny’s voice asked from the kitchen.
“Yeah, the paperwork alone wasss a challenge.” He replied, remembering the pile that had greeted him on his return, and forced him to work past his official end time. “But I think I can get it all done before the week isss out.”
“So more of these long days then?”
“Yep. But at leassst the workload for later hasss already been taken care of.” Clemens said as he pulled his trousers past his ankles before heading to their bedroom.
“Say? Could you come into the kitchen for a moment?” Jenny called out to him.
“One moment then.” Clemens quickly set his shirt with the trousers before heading to Jenny, who was busy with preparing dinner.
“I haven’t decided which of these to add, you have any preference?” Jenny had effectively adopted Clemens’ preference of not wearing anything when they were alone in their home, and apron to protect her front all she had on
“Let’sss sssee,” Clemens looked at what they had available. “I think sssome of the Lemon Basssil, and maybe a little Thyme to go with it.”
“An odd mix.” Jenny commented amusingly.
“I’m feeling a little adventurousss.”
“So I see.” Jenny looked up and down Clemens for a moment. “So are you going to lose those shoes?”
“Maybe.”

Later that evening, after they’d eaten and cleaned up, Clemens and Jenny were together on the couch as they caught up on the news.
“So what will they feature this time?” Jenny asked.
“Well, they firssst covered mammalsss, then aviansss, ssso I think they’ll cover reptilesss thisss time.” Clemens replied, guessing that she was referring to the specials they’d been running this week.
“I suppose so, but I am wondering what else they’d have covering it.”
“Ssstill thinking about that?”
“Yes, there’s just so many variables, that it’s really making me think.”
“True, but it’sss ssstill very recccent, the Animatrixxx Ssserum. Ssso it’sss no sssurprissse that there’sss ssstill a lot to be learned.”
“Which is why there’s still a lot to be reported on.”
“That there isss. Perhapsss they'll have sssomething on that after thessse reports.” Clemens would have continued had the phone not started ringing. “I’ll get it.”
As had become their habit, though not wearing anything (granted, Clemens still had footwear on) their dressing gowns remained within easy reach should someone come to their door, but he left it where it was since the phone didn’t involve seeing the caller.
“Hello?”
“Yes, hello.” The voice that came through was a deep bass one, but not one that Clemens recognised. “I call you from the Church of Lord Jesus. This is Clemens Patten I speak to?”
“Yesss.” Clemens confirmed, though he felt distinctly uncomfortable.
“Excellent! I call on behalf of the Lord, humbly asking for you to join us.”
“Excussse me?”
“On behalf of the Lord, I humbly ask that you join us.”
“And why would I?” Clemens could feel the tip of his tail twitching with his nervousness.
“Only to be of Service to the Lord. You do not need to make a decision right now, but a prompt response would be appreciated. Good day to you.” Clemens didn’t get a chance to reply as whoever it was that had spoken had already hung up, taking a moment to note down the number before returning to sit alongside Jenny.
“Who was that?”
“I have no idea, sssome Church.”
“What?”
“Sssome Church, they asssked me to join up with them.”
“And why would they do it like that?”
“Not sssure, the number’sss noted down though, ssso I can check on it later.” Clemens tried to reassure Jenny, a tail and arm around her as they pulled closer together. “Bessst not to worry about it right now.”
“I guess so.” Jenny snuggled in closer to him, used to, and quite liking the feel of his smooth scales sliding on her.
