Allan and Maria had been dating ever since they started high school. They were very much in love, and that love would serve them well in the transition to come.

“You’re pretty calm considering the situation.” Maria said.
“I’m not about to let some strange… epidemic, curse, whatever it is, stop me from spending time with my lovely lady.”
Maria giggled as she brought her lips to his and gave him a long kiss, a kiss that would have lasted longer, were it not for Allan pulling back and wincing in pain.
Allan put his hands over his ears and fell to his knees, gritting his teeth in pain for a full minute before it stopped. Maria stood in shock as she saw her boyfriend remove his fingers showing that they’ve grown longer. Allan had “Changeling Syndrome”.
