And then the darkness started to subside, and Ty could feel the world starting to slide back into place.
The holy animal designated by the False King of the Sixth Heaven called Giraffe had been dispersed. It was extinct in this world.
It was recreating itself using him as a center piece. That was the unescapable truth of the Power Ty had been granted - he was a cosmic being that reality could rebuild itself around.
There was seemingly no difference in him as he watched the world pass him by. He marched with Alexander the Great, he fought for Julius Caesar, he was Knighted and did Knight others. He fought for the new Tudor Family against Richard III. But none of it really mattered. He had taken pleasure in changing others and being changed.
He now understood this - the end result of entirely too much change. By desiring change and mutation, all hope of change was slain.
Instead, he used his Power to Diverge reality. Starting with killing Hitler during the Invasion of Poland, Ty became the hero history deserved. Someone who rejected the platitudes of others and their dry, endless requests and needs. He had seen Man ascend from the muck and drivel and become great.
In this new world, this fanciful new reality, Ty had become someone he could finally be proud to be. He was at once the most conventionally heroic looking individual, strong jaw, handsome look, bright eyes - so, so bright eyes, as if a look too long would bake your brain - and a strong, eternally young form that served him during one battle after the next.
But it tired him. One dictator after the next, one dire abomination shambling forth after the next.
He was tired. But he knew what this was. It was his Karma - his Fate, for changing Dustin and beginning the demise of universes.
So every time he was congratulated, called the man of the hour, he knew what was really going on. Someone had to have "Ty's Power", the ability to change the world around them, and it happened to be him. Was his name actually Ty, or was that a blatant illusion, a lie imposed upon him by whatever great power granted him these abilities?
So, Saturday Morning.
Another new life. He just couldn't handle any more of the last one, just one after the next. People needing, people wanting, his own wants and needs overwhelming.
His brother was not named Dustin in this reality, and he made every effort to seem like a bully all the same as in the last universe. His name was Stuart. Looked like he was doing the same thing as in that reality too, on that Saturday morning. He would discover his power, regress his brother, and become the elder.
Oh, but he was already the elder by several millions of years.
But he had to do this. Be it by the demands of the Fate he had made for himself by delving too deep into his power, or by simple convention.
He was a changer - he'd change Stuart. There was no arguing with the power that was, be it him, a greater entity, or something else still. His conscience shouted at him, told him it was ultimately petty to penalize Stuart for being a brat if he had all these victories under his belt, if he had done all this. There was no point.
And there was not.
He for once decided to reject them - this base desire for petty revenge that had driven him to change his brother back and forth, a task that had ended the damn universe once already.
"Choose your change. Choose how you'll change your lives. Don't let petty bastards do that for you." He whispered to himself as he reclined and thought about his life.
Congratulations, Ty.
