Perhaps 50 minutes had passed since they’d started their drive and for the new Jacob and Daisy Perth, things were lovely. Jacob could tell that his ears were pointed once more, and covered with a fine grey fur as they began to slide back to their proper place, and when he looked at his reflection in the rear-view mirror, he had seen that his face was pushing out, a very slight muzzle on it as his nose slowly became a part of his upper jaw.
Taking in the sight of his lovely mare wife, he saw that she shifted slightly in her seat, almost like she was trying to get pressure off of something, he supposed it was her tail returning, since he was experiencing a similar sensation at the base of his spine. To him, she was becoming more and more beautiful to his eyes with each passing mile with her lovely ears, rich eyes, and wondrous muzzle.
Noticing his staring at her, she faced him. “Oh dear, do I look right to you?” She asked with a slight teasing tone.
“Yes honey, you do.” He replied as he looked at the mileage they‘d covered so far. “45 miles, so that’s a bit less than one-sixth the distance covered.”
“And a bit less than one-sixth the old body back.” Daisy added before a thought came to her. “Say, I’ve been meaning to ask. Just how did you manage to make all this happen in the first place?”
“Oh that? With this.” He raised his hand to let her see the Ring on it. “This Ring is making it all possible.”
“How?”
“I’m not sure on that, I just know that this Ring is how we can make those humans come to realise that they too, are animals.” Jacob answered her question as best as he could.
“Well, I suppose that’s true.” Daisy replied, letting the matter drop for the time being as the next one came. “I suppose that Mrs Perth should be there by now, I just wish I could be there to see it.”
“I know honey,” Jacob sought to help her deal with her slight disappointment. “But as I said before, we can deal with all that once we get to the Cabin.”
“Yeah, you’re right.” Daisy replied a little more cheerfully. “You smell nice, you know?”
“Really? Thanks, so do you.” Jacob answered as the next topic came to mind. “That’s 50 miles now, which is the one-sixth mark reached, so honey? Is this enough for you? Or do you wish for more?”
Had they realised it then, they would have become aware of the fact that their intellect was not the same as it had been just an hour before. With their bodies becoming more and more equine, such thoughts were creeping to the surface. Even if it was balanced by a human intelligence, it was certainly more primal than before. And with it was a desire for their old forms that was growing with the miles they ate up.
“Say? Could we, take it further than this? I don’t think I’d be too happy with just this much.” Daisy replied after a moment to think it over. Though not the dominant factor, her old instincts and thoughts had certainly had an influence on this decision, one that was slowly pushing its way to the forefront of her mind.
“For you honey, of course I will.” Jacob responded a little eagerly, not realising that his own thoughts were affected like Daisy’s. “Now. I wonder what she’s doing right now?”
