Katie smiled and approached the four elderly women who were resting on a blanket overlooking the surf. "Hi," she said cheerfully. "My names Katie. Do you come here often."
The four women looked at Katie with a warm expression on there face. "Hello dear my name is Mary Elise and these are my friends Claudia, Samantha and Mika." The other women waved to the young surfer with smiles on there face. Katie returned their wave a smiled at Mary Elise.
"So do you surf?" Katie asked. Mary Elise chuckled softly and shook her head. "I'm afraid not dear," she said. "I've always wanted to but when I was your age my mother wouldn't allow me. She said it was unlady like."
"I used to," Samantha said. "Unfortunately I had to give it up about fifteen years ago when I hurt my knee in a car accident."
"So what brings you to the beach today?" Katie asked.
"It's a reunion of sorts," Claudia said. "When we were about your age we met on this very beach, that was probably sixty years ago now. Anyway the four of us lived in this neighborhood for years and never met until that fateful summer. Since then we've been inseparable."
"It was funny," Mika said. "For the most part we were opposites. Mary here was a tomboy, Samantha was the athletic one, Claudia was the popular girl and I was the shy one. You would never have thought the four of us would connect like we did but we became the closest of friends. Ever since then we like to come to this beach around this time to celebrate our friendship."
Katie nodded and smiled at the four elderly women. She seemed to sense the deep connection between the four as an idea crept into her head. "So do you miss being young?" She asked.
The four women chuckled and nodded their heads. "Oh yes dear of course," Mary said. "The four of us had such a fun time when we were young on this beach. Unfortunately you can't go back as much as we might wish it." The others nodded in agreement and sighed. "It would be nice to be young again," Claudia said. "I was such a pretty young thing in my time. We certainly used to turn heads in our day am I right ladies."
The women laughed in agreement and began talking of the past longingly. Katie watched the seventy year old women with a grin. She was going to give them their youth back, the only question was who and how young. Mary the matronly looking woman who used to be a tomboy, Claudia the thin woman with silver hair. Mika a frail looking Asian woman with short gray hair, or Samantha the former athlete with long grey hair and a weathered body. Katie couldn't decide who to change as she stared at her ring.
