Mary continued to enjoy her time as a butterfly. Hoping from flower to flower and watching the other insects and small animals that shared her forest home.
One morning Mary awoke to a heavy rain. Again, she was unable to fly with her wings so wet. She planned to ride it out on a comfortable leaf. The rain slowed and then stopped but Mary's wings were still too wet to fly yet. As the wind let up a strong wind began to pick up. Mary held on to the leaf as the wind shook all the plants and trees. Suddenly a gust came that blew Mary off the leaf. She tried to gain control as she was hurled through the air, but her wet wings and the strong wind prevented that.
Suddenly she felt herslf crash into something, though not hard. She recognized this something. It was sticky and silky. "Oh no" she thought to herslf. "I'm back in that spiders web". Once again she tried to struggle free and once again she alerted the large spider that prey had fallen into his lair. This time she as having more trouble. The position she landed in made it hard for her to break free. The menacing spider quickly came over seemingly smiling at the fact that the slippery butterfly was back in his web. Taking no chances this time of losing his meal once again the spider bit softly down into Mary's abdomen. The pain felt like a sharp needle but didn't last. Mary then felt her whil body slowly numb, and she could no longer move. The spider had injected a paralyzingly venom into her to prevent another escape. Once he had mary immobilized the spider began releasing webbing from his lower body which he spun around Mary until she was wrapped in a cocoon. He was still full from a horsefly he ate earlier so he decided to keep mary on wraps until dinner time. Mary wondered what would happen. Would she turn back before she became the main course for the spider or would she me her end as dinner for this large predator?
