Mary finally found herself in her natural habitat, which was the forest! She was free! No longer trapped inside of a house or a building, she could fly around like a real butterfly and experience what life is like as a real insect! What an amazing experience this would be for her!
She was now just like a real, small butterfly, trying to live and survive in the woods. So, she would search and land on flowers and trees, drinking the nectar of the flowers because of the sweetness. This would give her the energy needed to survive and to gain the energy needed to fly the next day.
She would fly during the day and rest at night, staying landed and parked on flowers or leaves while drinking water and nectar. She would spend all her time drinking nectar for that would keep her going. During the day, she would fly around and watch other creatures like caterpillars and small ants since they provided food.
When the sun was out during the day, she would fly from plant to plant or flower to flower, searching for nectar using her antennae and flapping her wings as she used all four of them. The worst time for her was when it rained because her wings would get wet and this would make it hard for her to fly. It would take her a few hours for her wings to dry and that would prevent her from flying.
This was the case one day when it was pouring and she was perched on a flower. It was raining so hard, that she fell off the flower and landed on something sticky and webby. Then, she discovered that she fell in a spider web! She struggled to get free but due to all her struggles, the big, menacing spider approached her and started pulling on one of her wings. The tentacles of the spider pulled off one of her four wings and started chewing on it! The pain was excruciating! She screamed and cried as the wing came off, and she just remained still as the spider chewed on her wing in the corner. While the spider was distracted, she used all her strength to break free from the web and to escape, hoping that her remaining wings would dry off and quickly as possible.
After a few hours of crawling around the ground while trying to get away from the spider as quickly as possible, she finally realized that she was able to use her wings. Her missing wing grew back, and it made all four of her wings grow even larger than they were before!
Finally, after several hours, she was able to fly again and she quickly retreated to a save flower where she happily drank some much needed nectar in order to regain some of her lost strength after that horrible attack by that awful spider.
Although she does enjoy her life as a butterfly, she does miss Todd and her friends who were all human. She realizes that someday the serum of the vial would wear off and she would slowly mutate back to her human self again and she would have to find her way back to her house where Todd would be waiting for her, or for some form of whatever she would look like at that time when she starts to become human again. Her fear was, at that time, would Todd still like her and accept her? Or, would he now think of her as some strange freak or animal?
